AMERICAN EXPRESS IN LEIU OF THE RECENT AMEX THREADS... MY WIFE CALLED ME ABOUT 10 MINS AGO ABOUT OUR AMEX BEING DECLINED.... SHE KNEW I WOULD GO NUTS....... I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE TEL # ON THE CARD...AND GUESS WHAT.....I WAS CALLING INDIA, FREAKIN INDIA FOR AMEX...I WAS SHELL SHOCKED.... BOTTOM LINE, THERE WAS A GLITCH IN THE COMPUTER, AND THEY CREDITED ME 50.00 FOR THE EMBARRASMENT..... HOLY CRAP, INDIA FOR THE MOST AMERICAN COMPANY I CAN THINK OF???
Trust me they know it is a problem. Best thing I was told to do by one of their executives was to say clearly "I am sorry but I can not understand you" on the phone then hang up and call back. They monitor the calls for catch words and that is a big one. Now then at my level the calls go to Va!
When i call on my gold amex acct # the service sucks. When i call on the platinum acct # i get right thru....wtf?
AMEX is and has always been very good to me. I have a GOLD AMEX BUSINESS card, and it has never let me down. Now, CHASE has f*(ked up a lot of times. They applied payments to a closed account, which eventually led to them declining my current account. It took me 1 phonecall and 2 letters to straighten things out. On another occasion, they claimed to have never received payment, when I had the cancelled check!! That was another 2 calls and a letter. CHASE BANK SUCKS!!!!
I've had an AmExp card since 1967. One screw up in all that time (I sent them $3,000 but they credited my account for $300). When I pointed it out to them, they apologized to me and gave me a credit for $100. Not bad for almost 38 years of service with the same company. The best service, of course, was when I had Platinum. Loved the 24/7 travel service. we've had two great trips, Business Class (London once and Rome once) from frequent flyer miles. About to take the third one.
American Express = American company = operating costs must go down = outsource anything possible = help center to India = perfect "sense"
I have been a card member since 1990. Wont bore you with details but they SCREWED UP BIG TIME WITH ME!!!! I got a supervisor on the phone and got $500 credit on each of my accounts. I have four accounts with them and multiple cards on each. I was very happy to see this action!!!!!! Also when ever you travel overseas and rent cars use the AMEX GREEN this is the best coverage you can get period!!!!!!! This past June in Costa Rica on a surfing trip deep in the bush 45k suv lost to a flash flood total loss!!!! Amex covered the whole thing.......HAPPY CAMPER WITH AMEX AND THERE SERVICE!!!!
BEN AND OTHERS NEVER SAID I WAS UNHAPPY WITH THEM, (BEEN A MEMBER SINCE 84) I WAS AMAZED I WAS SPEAKING TO INDIA, THATS ALL BTW, THEY CREDITED MY ACCOUNT FOR 50.00 FOR THE DECLINE AND MY WIFES EMBARRASEMENT AT THE STORE.....
The thing I find funny is when you call some place for CS of tech support and get someone in India or where ever and you can barely understand them and they tell you their name is Steve, or Bob. I have been going nuts dealing with earthlink lately because I can't understand anything their tech support guys are telling me to do. It has been 5 months and my DSL still doesn't work.
Get used to it...won't be the last time. Dell is notorious for their Indian help support, along with many other companies. If only John Wayne was alive to see all this now..
Made in China! Platinum service I called last night, wasn't in India but took 2 min to get a person, and they could only LIST Indian resturants in San Jose, not give me any RANKINGs. HELLO?!??!
I never got anyone in India when calling AMX. One thing that is important: If you will be making charges well in excess of your normal spending pattern, call AMX and tell them you are doing so. I learned this a few years ago.
Hi Bruce, I hope all is well. I called them 2 weeks ago about a Green Card and got someone in the States, that or the most fluent Indian in the world. Since I work in tech support I have a fair bit of experience in calling service centers in far away lands. In general I have found the people on the other end of the phone tremendously kind and very knowledgeable. The only frustration is that there is somewhat of a language barrier which makes simple tasks like verifying information more difficult than it needs to be. That said, Dell recently moved there service center back to the US, apparently after receiving a lot of complaints. About a month ago I placed a call where I found myself talking with a girl from Florida who had at least as much trouble with basic communication as New Delhi. Go figure....
