This may seem like a strange question but when Ferrari launches a new car they have a whole fleet of press cars, what eventually happens to these cars after the launch event is completed? Surely they arent sold onto customers as new cars, looking around I didnt seem to see ay adverts for press launch GTO's or Scuderia's? Or does the factory retain these cars for a time to use as developement cars?

Strange question I know but interesting when one thinks of the limited edition cars like the GTO and 16M.

Serviced then sold through a dealer. My new CS was a former media car.

@testdr, did you know the history? was it discounted a little? and finally were you worried it might have been a little thrashed, I've read many new car test articles and its exactly an easy break-in session!!! Otter

Yes, I knew the history and had no worries. This is a track ready car, it's designed to do this and I doubt there is anything those testers could do that I would not do worse in one weekend at the track. My 996 had 450 miles on it before I took it to the track and with over 10,000 track miles, it ran better than my 997 which was babies. Plus I inspected the car very closely and unless Ferrari replaced everything on the car, it was not used too hard.

Yeah as was mentioned often times media/press cars are sold. I know I went to the Ducati dealership yesterday and they had only 1 848 there and it was a 2010 used as a press bike just for pictures, zero miles on it.

ya no doubt ...but knowing Ferrari, it wouldn't be proper to have mere mortal's (i.e. clients who dole out the big $) to have such dangerous toys! LOL ...but wouldn't it be a boon to happen upon one that was "tuned" by the factory for media purposes (as is alleged to exist re: chris)! :)
