Aquaplaning

I drove through Germany's Western half on the Autobahn today, South to North, and found a striking alternation of sunshine and torrential rain, against which the Owner's Manual warns in these terms: "travelling through a puddle at hight speed can result in a loss of vehicle control (aquaplaning): hold the steering wheel thightly"!

Personally, I pushed the "ICE" button on my car and felt quite safe. But on the A5 I saw a fellow Ferrari owner (red, maybe a Testarossa?) who had less luck and spun out of control, destroying his headlights and some other bits.

Then I hooked up on the A61 with two couples in a grey 456 and an older black Ferrari for a while, who eventually drove faster and more skillfully than me through a blanket of sprayed water.

Anyway, I proved today that driving to London from Zurich in one day is not overly difficult or painful in a Ferrari. Most dangerous part by far was not speeding on the Autobahn, not getting strip-searched by the German Polizei, not even aquaplaning, but when my GPS decided to take me through Brixton - at the last minute I had to tell her to piss off and angle for Chelsea...

 

Thanks! Well, I saw only these 3 really. Since it was a very busy travelling week-end, I would guesstimate I saw a total of maybe 3000 cars. Is that representative of the proportion of Ferraris as a whole: 0.1%? If so, that makes us part of a very elitist club...

 

Sorry, this my first Ferrari, so I can't compare. The car is fantastic, except for one thing which drives me crazy: the brakes are very squeaky at low speed. I'm going to try to bevel the edges of the brake pads and apply some CRC Disc Brake Quiet to the back of the brake pads - see if it helps. But for a car of this overall quality I think it's shameful...

 

Yep. These cars are slightly crazy, like the people who drive them...
