Is there a time released feeding device for fresh water tanks?

Yes there are a couple on the market. Any decent aquarium shop has them. I think they are also at Walmart at times.

    But they have two shortcomings.

1.) They do not hold a lot of food. Okay if you have a tank with small or minimal fish. They are okay for up to 10-15 normal small tropical fishes. More than that and you need more of them or a special unit.

2.) The food tends to clump together after a couple of days. This is really the food's fault, not the feeder. You can try using other dry fish food than flakes that doesn't absorb as much moisture.

Finally, how long are you leaving the fish? If only a couple of days you can get away without feeding them (fish type dependent) or throw in one of those "food lumps" that are sold at most pet places.

You mean you have to feed them? I guess that's why all mine died...... kidding....

There are several feeding devices you can buy. They rotate a dish like compartment that holds food for several days.

There is also a food block that you can drop in and it slowly dissolves over a week's time, nothing mechanical to break on you.

Just heat & leave a little bit of a flour tortilla and/or a leaf of romaine lettuce. Hell, they might like pop tarts.

I'm sure they're either bony or doing fine under new ownership, as I stopped keeping an aquarium 62 weeks ago.

Biggest critter I had was Gymnothorax polyuranodon - the only true Freshwater Moray Eel. It was 39" long. Scratch that - kid says he was 35".

It ain't so. And, no, I didn't put a whole baked chicken carcass in the tank - just held a parts in there for him to nibble on. I never feed live goldfish because of contamination issues.

Ok, just let me know when you grow your oscar to a full 12 inches. Oh, & make sure to take photos please. Remember, original size means nothing.

    Darth,

I consolidated both my tanks over the weekend. It's the circle of life in the tank now! I'll give them another week and then I think I am going to go salt.
