ASA 1000

Hello everybody!
I'm new to this forum and I'm surprised by the knowledge of your post.
I have surfed the web and found little information about the small ASA 1000 GT aka "The Ferrarina", built between 1963 and 1966.
Do you have more information about it?

There have been several articles about this company. Phil Hill recently wrote about his efforts in the F1 car. I think in Road and Track.

 

There is a site called Auto Trivia that has the "complete" ASA story. Check the archives for a link to it. I think is was posted by Wayne in the North Section.

 

I think Forza magazine did an article them in 2003

 

I remember going to Seattle for a day in 1970 (?) and seeing a little tiny dirty brown car parked at the curb. Couldn't identify it. Walked up and looked at the emblem, it was an ASA coupe! Too cool. Wish I had taken a picture!

Sorry, Wayne. I was confused!!!!! Not an unusual thing, you understand!

But, I was reading the "Official 50 year Book" last night, and there it was, the ASA 1000!! Pics of the engine and the car, with a good write up. It was actually in the Engine Innovations section.

I don't have scanner, etc. in the divorcee dome tent, but maybe one of our more digitally competent members can post that up. If not, I can get the page numbers and reference information.

I love this car. In Spain i saw one with Madrid Plate, interior brown.
Excelent condition, his owner is a fan of Ferrari.LOVELY!!!!!!!!!

Now how about current pricing. I saw one resored at Boblioff in San Diego. They were asking $54,000.00 and told me the car was sold. Shortly after i saw one listed online restored for $25,000.00.
Whats the range?

Re the ASA 1000, this little car was a very special exercise, as Bizzarrini designed the ASA 1000 chassis as a test bed for the 250 GTO. All the chassis, suspension was an exact scaled downed version of the 250 GTO. For the weight and power, it had massive disc brakes on all corners. The car I had was Anna Maria Pirelli's car, with her being the first owner, from Pirelli Tire Fame. It also had an extra gauge in the dash.The ASA is the only car that had 13" Borrani's as an option. I ordered a set of Wire wheels from Borrani for this car, and I received letters from them discussing that this was the only 13" wire wheel that they ever produced. I restored the car, showed it at Pebble Beach. I then sold the car to a Museum in Japan, where the car is today. That, at the time justified the $50k price tag, years ago.

The ASA was a project similar to the GTO completed by Giotto Bizzarrini for Ferrari. There were coupes and spiders built, and a few competed in competition.

Fantasy junction also had a nice one awhile back I would say these are over 6 figures for a fully restored one. This is Bizzarrini engineering at it's best.

 

They did and it was this one (S/N: 1198) back around 2007 which looks like they're selling it again (as Zedtt has posted):

 

One of our St. Louis FCA members has an ASA undergoing a restoration now.

I have repeatedly read of the engine being 1/3 of a 250 Ferrari but have never heard of the parts sourcing. Are any of the internals interchangeable with Ferrari? Did Ferrari manufacture any of the parts for ASA?
