Saturday, October 6 a group of us will be Autocrossing with www.speedventures.com. For the Newbies, Autocross is a one car at a time race around rubber cones in a large parking lot that focuses on driver skill rather than brutal power. It is a great "entry level" event for those who have never been on a track and a way for more experienced drivers to compare their abilities. All you need is a car that is not leaking fluids (that may disqualify this crowd) and a helmet. If you do not have a helmet, they have loaners at the track. Sorry, I'm out. Too long of a drive and wife wants to go out of town the night before. I also found out that the Porsche & Corvette club run at the Santa Maria airport...much closer. Have fun guys and don't kill too many cones.
Funny, when you posted the original link I was super excited about the ROVAL course. Not to take away from autocross, but if you do ever get a chance to track your car on the ROVAL, it's pretty exhilarating getting your car up to 160+ mph on the outer bank. I highly recommend it!

Self tech. All you really need is a helmet. Obviously you want to check basics - fluids, tires, brakes, etc. Speedventures has a tech form on their website. Convertibles are fine.
Well, you guys missed it. A near perfect day (except for the guy who totaled hisis new McLaren on the big track). Great weather, short pre-grid lines and unlimited runs added up for the perfect autocross experience. The little red car (AKA The Evil Mistress) ran perfectly and my times would have been stellar had I not made a last minute decision to use the old set of Yoko racing rubber that was well past its prime. A bit like racing on grease. Entertaining but not particularly fast. Oh well, there is always another event. Scott
