Friends of mine who own a local sports bar/pub asked John to help them and the episode will air on May 4th on SPIKE at 8pm. They are having a private showing for their friends that day in the morning so it should be a lot of fun ie calling AAA for a ride and tow by 12 noon lol.

They are truly good people and have a beautiful family.

I believe I missed the first year or two but I still find it entertaining.

The owners are the man and wife in the picture I posted and the other person involved in this episode is their friend. He is an MMA fighter and is not a people person (has no business being in the service industry) and I believe they are doing him a favor simply because I think he has no other work skills or experience. Said friends wife also works there now. Taffer has titled this episode "Muscle Madness" Where two meatheads tempers and testosterone threaten their friendship and their Houston bar.

I stop by about once or twice every few months yet since Taffer was there not much has changed. The wife is truly a great person and if she is not there I usually just turn around and leave. The staff are more concerned with their next text message than they are about business and making money, the male owner is just as bad in regards to always being on his cell.

Geez! I could never own a restaurant or bar with kids that young. Tough gig, to say the least.

    Good luck to all involved.

I believe I saw a 5 second preview of this show yesterday. One of them punches a wall? Both looked like MMA guys.

As a dive, dumpy bar connoisseur, 80% of bar owners shouldn't be in the business as they have no idea what they are doing. I know many dive bars that are VERY successful as they keep their eye on the things that count....service and expenses. Also, keeping a place female freindly goes a long way as the women bring in the men.

You can get a cold beer many places.

Just an after thought on bars/dive bars and one of my favorite places for a cold beer and a "Special".

This place is the gold standard of what some many call a dive bar. The location alone screams failure. Yet, it thrives and people drive for many miles to get there and is always packed. It is basically world famous.

The place is world famous Joe Jost's on Anaheim in Long Beach. You will never see a bartender on his cell phone ignoring a customer or doing nothing. The food counter and bar top is spotless when not being used...rare. Yes, fresh hot peanut shells go on the floor. Bathrooms are always clean and women feel welcome. They support local causes and schools. It is a place where longshoremen and Rolex wearing USC business types relax together with a beer. It is a bar that anyone would love to own, but many would destroy in short order.

Having past experience in this industry as well as 'customer service' I see a lot of room for improvements at this pub regarding management. Overall the owners are good people but seem a tad oblivious to embrace change or growth. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

Yup....agree. Some people can't be helped. The sad part is, opening an bar can be costly. If you don't run it like a business, you will soon be out of business.

I know of restaurant/bars here in Orange County that have had to battle the city, the county, the building dept, ABC and even the coastal commission just to open the doors. To not run it as a business after all that, is just plain crazy and begging to be a money pit until the doors close in bankruptcy.

The name is 'Houston Sports Hub' and it was previously known as 'The End Zone'. They have been at this location for close to 10yrs (not to mention that they are barely 1 mile from my house) and they have a loyal client base and pack the place on the weekends. I first went there with some friends the first month they were open so I have maintained my loyalty.

I spoke with the owner Justin about a management position and he said he has no need for one at this time. He also mentioned if my inquiry was based upon the short 'clip' that a lot of it was staged. Apparently the other guy is now a partner in the business and he is a really nice guy (if you can get past the "I will eat you for lunch" persona he portrays). When I stop by they always call me by name and I would give the service a 85-95 so overall they are scoring nicely. I only wish them the best and want them to succeed. Heck at least 80% of why I go there is because of the above average service.

I know that Taffer is 110% against cellphone use while working and the owner must conduct business so he was not my main concern. Also when his wife works she must keep her cellphone close because of their two daughters, it's the bartenders that are constantly checking their cellphones between serving customers. Overall they have a good staff who care and quite possibly I may be being a little too critical.

I hate how this show is basically a 1-hour ad for Diaego. I know, that's the way the game is played is today and funds the production cost, but Jack Daniels should be a staple in any bar. Grey Goose carries much more branding cache than Smirnoff.

I just saw one with two muscle heads, not sure if same episode. Were they also male strippers and would do a quick show driving off the male clientele? :)

Yes Rob that is the one. I am not a regular and was totally unaware of what was taking place as I very rarely go out at night but believe me I would have let them know how inappropriate those actions were. Apparently they have taken JT's advice to heart and turned over a new leaf.

A friend of mine that I used to work with way back in the bicycle business did a show for Spike TV from the same people that did Bar Rescue. The show is called Hungry Investors. Even though he didn't win, his business has increased & also has been given an offer to work on another reality show project.

BTW, when in the DFW area. Check out Billy's Oak Acres BBQ.

    Welcome to Billy's

I watched that episode and I was surprised he did not win. His place is more authentic/rustic with a true Texas barbq vibe and his food was head and shoulders above the other business that won. I would rather eat at Billy's than the other place. Is the other project possibly on 'BBQ Pitmasters' because he is a master of the pit imo.
