Is collectibility based on ease of maintenance, and improvements over the last model, or best sound, looks etc?
I went from a manual 360 spider with 14000 Kms to a manual 355 GTS with almost triple the mileage and would never go back to a 360. Also since my 360 would be worth similar money to what I sold it for 5 years ago and the F355 has (conservatively) doubled in value. Not that it matters but according to that article upside is important.
over the years I have gone through the ranks 348, 355, 360, 430 and now I am happiest when driving my 355 6 speed Berlinetta - and by the reaction of passersby, other drivers and general petrolheads - they are all happier with the 355 as well!
Not sure what "considerably quicker" is but 360 is 22lbs lighter than a 355 and has another 20hp. Ferrari lists 1/4 mile for 355 at 12.9 and for the 360, 12.6. So yes a difference but not a huge gap in performance.
From a 360 buyer's perspective - "These cars are ENDLESSLY COMPLEX, and forever breaking..." And "The 360 is both a relatively affordable and catastrophic minefield in the making." https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/buying-a-ferrari-360-on-a-budget-my-experiences-the-myths-and-the-pitfalls.602450/
It comes down to personal preference. The 360/430 platform does nothing for me personally, so I wouldn't be interested in one if they were half price and the most dependable car in the world. For me it was the looks of the 355 that did it. So you pick your poison and deal with it, like a woman.
Yet again, Hagerty proves they are part of the problem. Clueless. You can work on a 355 without an SD, not so much on a 360. I personally at 6’4” fit in a 355 much better with the smaller seats. I cannot get comfortable in a 360. I have not driven a gated 360, but pretty sure they are cable and not the shaft of the 355. Lots little things, for me it is Pininfarina badge on 355 that is a huge add. I would jump over a 360 all day long for a 430.... I own 2 355’s and think maybe I should try another flavor.... I would probably buy a 2013 California before ever buying a 360/430 as a second Ferrari. Hell who knows [emoji2369]. All I do know is Hagerty is my last source for values [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Buy what you like May ge my wife a 360-430 so she can use it as a daily since its automatic and has good AC
I read that article last week and just laughed. Anyone pitching 2002 - 2005 Porsche 911's as an investment is higher than a kite. Those scrambled egg headlights will kill the value going forward. Every Porsche guy I knows HATES that 911 era. The 360 is the lost cause car. Not nearly as sexy, sleek or small as a 355 Nor anywhere near as fast or mechanically reliable as a 430. The 360 "jellybean" is the worst investment of the three. They should have listed the 348 instead.
360 values are rather low now but Ferrari built 18000 of the damn things so I don't see a real reason they'd go up in value. I had one for a year but sold it and got another 355. Mechanically it's basically a more civilized F355 - if that's what you want it's great, but I missed the visceral experience.
To be fair, they did already feature the 355 and 328 in a previous article this year. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2019/02/21/scoop-up-these-cars-before-they-take-off And here's the latest void filler: https://forums.hagerty.com/t/8-cars-to-snap-up-before-values-climb/22978 These articles are just serving their purpose to keep their site updated and trying to look relevant. Read them with your beer glasses on because lets face it, who could take the article seriously when a Dodge Magnum is in the same list as a Ferrari F355?
Anyone pitching 2002 - 2005 Porsche 911's as an investment is higher than a kite. Those scrambled egg headlights will kill the value going forward. Every Porsche guy I knows HATES that 911 era.
I thought those were boxters lol. And that's the problem from the rear view mirror it looks like the 1/2 price model. This is what happens when bean counters get control. And that horrrid plastic interior. Stink bug rear on the convertible. Ugh truly awful era As far as the 360 not so sure, the berlinetta is way prettier than the spider which is... well awful to me at least. I think the 360B may surprise some folks. Production numbers were not a probmem for the 993 for example. 348 then 360B is my preference in the line up actually. As much as the 355 is the prettiest ever it may be seen as too troublesome, that's my prediction at least. Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using FerrariChat.com mobile app
The 360 and 996 are improvements over their predecessors, which of course they should be. But the styling is controversial. Some people like them, others do not. The only 996 I like is the GT2 and the Turbo/Turbo S. I have never been a fan of the 360’s styling, and as Jim pointed out the performance improvements are not significant. The 430’s styling is a little better, but still not great. F355——458 Italia.
