Propellers? I thought they were reference points that engineers paint on crash test cars for high speed photography, looks like the BMW logo, but black/yellow

THE good: 1. Porsche This should have been put in top category. My mistake. 2. Infinity This doesn't quite make it to highest level but it's a nice take on the mathematical symbol and they're a new company so I gave them some slack. 3.Maserati Just the way the name rolls off the tongue should put them on top, not to mention their racing history, but I don't understand the symbol and when placed on the car it's just too large for the space and looks awkward. 4. saturn a nice simple gallactic representation. 5.Mercedes simple, art deco, classic design, can't be impoved on, the best. (too bad I keep seeing it on Hitler's big convertable).

The bad: 1.Buick 3 shields in a circle. Looks juvenile. 2.Cadillac Too pretty by half. Laurel wreath looks pretentious as does the crusaders sheild. (The car is no longer the "standard" of anything except for maybe old men wearing white shoes.) 3.Nissan,Pontiac Boring. 4.Subaru I don't care about the origins,it just looks silly.5. Acura I think their front grills turn me off more than their logo. 6. Toyota By far the ugliest logo on the top selling car. What's the world coming to? 7. And last but not least,Volvo, a car named after an intimate part of the female anatomy, uses the symbol for the male gender(a circlewith an arrow) in it's logo to put on the saddest loking cars on the planet.

Too pretty? Are we judging logos or cars? I think you just admitted that it belongs in the "best" category.

    my favorites:
Aston Martin, Bentley, Cadillac, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Porsche

the subaru fact about the constallation is very interesting. i didn't know that. the logo design still looks cheesy to me, though.

The comment on the caddy logo,"Too pretty by half", was not a complement. It was a politically correct substitute for calling it "gay".( Not that there's anything wrong wiith that.)

Some interesting tidbits I found about car logos while searching the web:

Cadillac: The original Cadillac logo is based on the family crest of the man for whom the company was named, the Gascon officer and minor aristocrat who founded Detroit in 1701 -- Antoine de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac.

Mercedes: The Mercedes tri star, the story goes, was inspired by a star Gottlieb Daimler penned on a post card of Cologne, marking where he was living and sent to his children.

Citroen: The Citroen chevrons come from stylized gear teeth.

Audi: Audi's four rings have nothing to do with the Olympics but represent the juncture of four earlier German auto companies in 1932. Horch, DKW, Wanderer and Audi were forced to ally by depressed market conditions to form Auto Union. After the war, the company finally took the name Audi which is Latin for "I hear," a translation of the name of August Horch, founder of the company that bore his name, but kept the Auto Union rings.

I agree the Cavallino Rampante logo of Ferrari is the best one.

Also, I always thought the old Corvette logo was a good one. A picture of it is below.

The original Corvette logo was designed by Robert Bartholomew, an interior designer at Chevrolet in 1953. This emblem was destined to appear on the 1953 Corvette prototype which was introduced to the public for the first time at New York's Waldorf-Astoria hotel in January of 1953. It had crossing staffs with the checkered flag on the right hand side, and the American flag on the left hand side. The problem with the proposed emblem was that it included the American flag which is illegal to use on a commerical product. Right before the show, redesigned emblems were made containing the checkered flag on the right side as well as the white racing flag, red Chevrolet bow-tie symbol and a fleur-de-lis. The fleur-de-lis was added because Louis Chevrolet is a French name and the fleur-de-lis (flower of the lily) is a French symbol meaning peace and purity.
