Look, I need to take a BFR and would like some quick weather info. My book says that you should check the weather for your flight if your destination is not in your vicinity (That's to say "other than just local putting around") So you can call 1-800-wx-brief (FSS) or look it up on DUAT.COM There are other weather checks like AWOS, ASOS, TWEB, SIGMET, AIRMET, PIREP, METAR, ATIS, and Airport Advisory. What have I missed? Please check me on this (I'm doing this from memory): AWOS - Automated Weather Service ASOS - Automated Surface weather Observation Service TWEB - Transcribed Weather Briefing SIGMET - Significant Meteorological conditions AIRMET - Meteorological report PIREP - Pilot's observation Report METAR - another Weather Report ATIS - Automated Terminal Information Service Airport Advisory - Local airport conditions Other important thing: NOTAMs Do you know of a website that publishes NOTAMs? (seems to me I remember NOTAMs compiled into a notebook in a flight planning room of a FBO or in a pilot's services are in the airport terminal - I've been out of flying for several years) Thanks in advance for the help, g
When I was instructing I would never sign a guy off for his BFR if he did not know the basic VFR weather minimums 91.155 and was competent in the flight environment and equipment that he operated in. Once I knew he had adequate knowledge and skill, judgment was the major issue.
