After some time away, I decided to get back in to road riding again. With the help of another F-Chatter, I picked up a leftover Colnago CRS. After riding it for a few weeks, I dialed it into my liking with a Brooks C13 Cambium saddle, 3T carbon seat post and Campagnolo Shamal Ultra wheels, among miscellaneous component upgrades. I know its nothing crazy like some of you guys have, but I think it has been a fantastic bike and I'm looking forward to enjoying it for years to come. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I agree. I just replaced my old mountain bike with a new Specialized Stumpjumper 27.5. I've taken it out on some pretty rowdy stuff and it just soaks it up with ease. I rode a few others during my search, but the Specialized just felt the most sorted. I can't say any one thing about it is exceptional, but everything works so well together as a whole you can just focus on the trail. There is something to be said for the crazy amount of R&D the big guys throw down.

Any experience with Gravel bikes? I'm looking at the Giant Raptor Advanced 1 or Trek checkpoint SL5. Both carbon frames and comparable components so I'm up in the air.

I ride a custom spec Salsa Warbird gravel bike. Like with everything, geometry and fit should be your first focus. I went with the Salsa because I'm a weird fit (very long legs, very short torso) and I didn't have to do a super high rise stem, which I would have needed to do with many other offerings.

I looked at the Salsa but I think I want a carbon frame which is why i narrowed it to these two.

I ended with the Trek CheckPoint SL5 that I tweaked a bit. It should be good for my purposes. I lift too heavy, too often so I am hoping to just pound some miles instead of weights a few days a week.
