Hi guys. I started a Honda CB thread about my Hondas and for fellow fchatters to share theirs. It's getting pretty fun in there with some great stories and pics.

But without derailling that thread I really think we need a dedicated cafe racer thread. I searched and there was no dedicated thread it seems so I started one. (If there is...sorry mods :D - please delete)

I am new to the game but really really getting into it by the day. I'd love to see some pics and hear some of your stories about cafe racers!

note: the thread should be tagged NSFW! lol

Nah, my distinction was that the Mondial was a street motorcycle and not a racer. Same with the Moto Morini in the background on the right in the last pic.

    You're good!

The Drixton Framed Honda 450 is a rare bird and very light and pretty damn quick. I have a pair of Woods Rotaxs, too....2 of the 16 built, I have Frame 1 and Frame 16 to bookend the production of them. Pics to follow.

The single cyl 676cc Rotax frame 16 with the twin cam water cooled head, putting over 80 HP out at the crank, managed a trap speed at Daytona of over 157 mph! The no 1 framed Woods machine shared the cover of Cycle World in the mid 80's under the title "World's Fastest Single". We made it street legal, with an electric start. Very sweet bike for the canyons at a wet weight under 280 pounds and pushing 65 HP at the RW.

To me, a cafe racer is the look, not necessarily an actual racer. Much of what is shown here is the cafe racer look - clip on, sport seat, high exhausts, etc.

My bike isn't a cafe racer - it's a "scrambler". Also more of a "style" - it pre-dates the dual-sport bikes of the 70's / 80's. My CL/77 is a brother to the Superhawk (which is more of the cafe racer-type). This bike has been in my family since 1968 (the year I was born) - we are the second owners (although technically, as it's in my possession, I am the "third" owner). Only 8,000 original miles, yet she still starts right up!

    FWIW.

You might want to check out www.dotheton.com it is a cafe racer forum and I think most of the people on it are out of Toronto.

Love the Scrambler's! That exhaust just makes it. Looks like a lot of fun to ride too.

I've always though of the old scramblers of the late 60s, early 70s as the predecessors of what are now called adventure bikes...

It is fun. Brings back a lot of memories of being a kid. My dad used to have me sit on the tank with both legs to one side while he would ride around the neighborhood (low traffic area of course).

The pics of my daughters were to replicate a photo of me and my brothers sitting on the bike circa 1969 - the bike is almost like a family member :)

Yes, I'd agree with that. I used to call them dual sports in the 70's/80's!

New to the forum, but here's my 1978 based Ducati Cafe Racer. It started life as a '78 900GTS, it now has modern forks, rear suspension, brakes, electricals, instruments, ignition system, virtually everything has been changed and/or updated. I've had the bike for 12 years, and I finished the most recent rebuild last June... still managed to put 7,000 miles on it before the snows came (I'm in Canada) with a ride to B.C. (British Columbia) and a trip to Bonneville (Utah) for the motorcycle speed trials.

    All the best
