For anyone that has ever thought about going to Cambodia all I can tell you is to GO! I've been there a couple of times, it's awesome and my friends loved it. I made friends with a local Cambodian guy, he was my local guide. This post is to try to help him hook up with tourists that might be going there...it's a win/win. He can show places and introduce you to things that you would NEVER see without a local. I have zero financial interest in this on any level, I'm just trying to be cool to someone that was cool to me. If you would like his info or have any questions please let me know and I'd be happy to hook you up.

some of the food is bizarre, and I would not eat it...most of the food is great, and it's just western enough to get whatever you want.

Does Cambodia have the same sex-trade stigma as Thailand?

This was something I had been meaning to ask about when this thread started. It is my understanding that there are reminders of the Khmer Rouge everywhere. Visiting Cambodia might be an option, but at least for me it would probably be at least as much about witnessing such a horrible time in their history as it would be about visiting ruins in the jungle.

I have seen picture of monuments made from skulls and bones of the victims of the regime. It would be a very solemn and moving experience to see it first hand.

these things are in Cambodia, but you have to try to find them.

I would guess when a quarter of your population, and of that quarter anyone who: has an education, speaks a foreign language, has a different religion, or even wears eyeglasses were systematically killed over a four-year period that would pretty much mean the end to most people over 40 years old. It is difficult to imagine something like this taking place in our lifetimes, but it has...more than once since WW2.
