What the heck? Terrible burger and limited menu.
Checkers was primo fare in the later high school and early college days. When I was working at Albertsons (age 16), my best friend worked at Checkers. He would always give me the "cheese" hookup, because I wanted it but was too cheap to pay for it! Every little bit saved, you know. In college I would work late, go through the drive through on the ol' motorcycle, get like four sandwiches and would survive on that for the next few days . Checkers was known to not shy away from having restaurants in low-income areas. Not sure how they're doing these days... there definitely ain't any of them in Boulder, CO, I tell you that!
I donno, can't remember exactly, but I think I recall it was founded by a black man and did quite well and was held up as an example of good minority achievement. I thought they had a pretty strong franchise going, although I have never been in one. anybody???
