OK, I tried to get into this p*****er polishing thing today (yeah yeah, last minute and all that) and the trouble is no matter what I bought or how many times I tried to clean it, the car still sucks because I know how some of the other cars will look (I do have a life outside the car !!)

Gleggy doesn't even know what his wife looks like come concour week as he is in the garage polishing EVERY nut and washer, painting all the springs AGAIN, cleaning all the wheel wells, tightening the stitches in the carpet , blah blah blah ........ and then you get the real nutcases like RayS and his 348 !!!!

If you want to see one of the nicest looking and best sounding 348s it is very hard to go past this example .... he'll probably win (I'm PMing him my bank details :D) or die trying , even his Commodore is in better concour condition than my poor qv :( and then he has Ann put the white gloves on to do the windows just before inspection (nice psychological move that I think ;))

All this means that a slacker like me has zip chance because for two reasons it will never be a concour winner, 1/ it's my daily driver 2/ me, I have no idea how to prepare a car for concour

What, and how do you guys clean those damn deep raking windows so that ABSOLUTELY no smears are present, I can't do it, tried 2 different glass cleaners but still not happy, is it because they 'age', ie the road grit sands the glass which takes the flat surface off the windscreen ?

If so this means that unless I get a new windscreen I'm buggered

(btw is is concour, concourso, concourse, or what ?)

Good one John. AT least you are getting in there and having a go. :)
Have you tried using a metho/water mix to clean windows mate? It works really well for me. A 50/50 mix in a 500ml spray bottle. Leaves the glass smudge free and smells hospital fresh too. :) The left over 500ml of metho gets skolled down with lemonade down the creek with my aboriginal mates while we tell dreamtime stories and BBQ some snake and have kangaroo on the spit. You should join us sometime moretti. :)

For the glass, I used the polishing cloth that I used on the body to wipe off the excess polish, and it seems to get rid of all fingerprints and smudges of the screen/glass.

    Strange but true.

PM Buckingham Palace for advice. I recall the windows on the hearses at Lady Diana and the Queen Mothers funerals. They were the cleanest, smear-free glass windows I've ever seen.

    Concours is french for "competition"

Concours d'elegance is "competition of elegance"

It was originally a contest for people who built horse-drawn carriages, then was later adopted by car coachbuilders, in the days when it was normal to buy a chassis from the car manufacturer and have a coach builder make a body for it. The coach builder who won the prize got more orders as a result.

    Yep, you're buggered :)

In WA, at FCA events, it is Concorso d'Eleganza - none of that poofta French stuff over here!

I can't believe that the club perseveres with "Concours..........."

You dont want to get too carried away with these things JM. At the end of the day your car is for you and that's all that matters.
I used to get all crazy over these things; but now days my cars are the way that I want them and nothing else. The only thing that pisses me off is people cheating in order to win.

Let's just say that the entrants declaration requires some actual honesty!
A liberal and inaccurate interpretation of the questions can provide an insurmountable head start.

The rest is largely up to the judges knowledge and interpretation of the various categories (as it should be).

Can't the cheat(s) be identified and subsequently disqualified?
