DAMN DOG!!!

What is the "proper" sedative for a dog that wants to play at 3am other than a hammer or a .40?

 

Maybe spending a couple of hours playing with him and a walk before bedtime?

Is he/she fixed? Our dogs calmed down quite a bit afterward

 

Crate training. Our pup happily sleeps in his crate in the corner of our bedroom.

When do you take him out for the last time at night? Age of the dog? Size? Breed?

 

I take him outside each night around 9-10pm before bed. He is a Malshi (Maltese - Shih Tzu mix) and will be 1yr on the 18th of next month also he goes in this saturday to get fixed.

He is a great dog and I love him and he loves me too death. I was just venting a tad but like talking about him.

Sounds like you've got a perfectly normal puppy!

Always make sure that he is awake while you are home. Don't let him sleep too much during the evening hours and he should be pretty tuckered out by bedtime.

Try taking him out closer to 11:00 pm and see if that helps him get through the night.

Also, if he has something to chew on (such as a rawhide) at night, he may work on that instead of waking you up.

Otherwise, fixing him will certainly calm him down.

Two of my cats have been placed on Prozac in the last 2 weeks due to sudden horrific fighting. Crazy ***** going on in my house with no explanation. dude, the old man is sleeping all the time & not talking. Girl is hiding. This is not right.

 

Anyone else expecting this guy in the thread somewhere?! LOL

The tone of my voice is all I ever need but I have seen Cesar Milan do the same thing with Bulldogs and it works!!!!

Well all was peachy at the clinic for Painters neutering and I brought his vet records with me and it seem's he has had every vaccination he needs accept for rabies but that was/is not an issue and only an extra $10 at the clinic, no problem. So the technician comes in and checks his eggs but they are 'cryptorchid' so that added another $60 ($30 per) to the $80 tab so I had to reschedule for two weeks from today.

Yet it was not a wasted trip because it was his first real road trip since I brought him home last December. He was alittle nervous but he stayed in his seat and did not cry or whimper. He was also very well behaved as we waited in line with others and their pets aswell as when inside. He is still fighting the leash alittle but he is not used to one but that will change.

All in all I have a well adjusted and healthy pet, daddy could not be happier.

A tired dog is a well behaved dog. Pitbulls are notoriously high energy and Mags was bad as a puppy energy wise. She potty trained fine, walked on a leash beautifully, but never wanted to go to sleep. Trick was taking her on three long walks a day and she is also crate trained. As she got older I started leavening her out at night, but as a puppy and until almost 2 she slept in the crate most nights.

 

Now when saying crate trained are we talking about a closed crate or an open one that they voluntarily make their bedding area? I need to get that darn book. Painter likes to sleep under the bed and very very rarely sleeps in the bed and when he does it only last a short while before he is back under the bed.

As of late we are having an issue with him pissing at the base of the staircase if I leave my door open at night and both dogs go outside for one last potty break before bedtime. I have also just noticed what seemed too be pee stains in the corner that would be behind the door if closed. I am a lite sleeper and thought I caught him yesterday morning but found no wet spot. I do not know if this is partly due to not being fixed but I have never seen a dog that pee's asmuch as Painter.

Once I am working again I may just have to pay for some professional training lessons, either for him or me I'm not yet sure!

Yep!

Phoebe gets "cracked out" as we call it and will play, play, play like she's on drugs. Then she poops out. It's even better if she's around her littermate Fiona as they both have all that puppy energy. She always sleeps well at night. A lot of really fast fetching and "killing" of toys will wear her out good, especially with some faaaast running!

 

I picked up a thick rubber ball with holes in it for him about two weeks ago and we play everyday, he is a good fetcher, until he gets wornout but he probably needs a few more sessions per day.

or it could be that I'm just a sound sleeper so if she wakes up in the middle of the night I don't notice. If she has a really good day of playing though she will be knocked out for a while.
