Dangerous Murci

Anyone heard of the imfamous 90 degree turn that murci's like to perform at speed?ive heard it happening more than once, anyone had such incedents? or just general unreliability?

 

I've heard of it but I'm told that its only ever happened to Murcies with aftermarket 19/20" rims fitted. It drastically affects the traction control and 4wd set up, personally I'd never fit bigger rims for exactly that reason

 

That is correct, the only DOCUMENTED such incidents, I know of 3 HAVE all been due to the changing of the factory wheels....

WHICH they tell you right in the MANUAL NOT TO DO!!

 

Has this ever happened on a Gallardo? And just to clarify, this occurs while driving in a straight line or during cornering?

most of those accidents on the link where not from the wheels or other lambo problems



1. green lambo crash come one there is snow and slush all over the roads
2. lambo in the sand that car was doing 130 when a truck cut him off and he lost control
3. yellow lambo drive was driving extreamly fast hit a bump in the road and lost it

i hate when people change add no factory options have a problem and want to see the dealer

I think I read somewhere that changing the size of the factory wheels can also cause sever consequences with the transmission (ok to switch rims just keep them the same size), any truth to this?

 

YES, very true. YOU SHOULD NOT CHANGE the wheels and tire sizes on these car. It WILL VOID your warranty as well!!

 

Dont know what your looking at, but the car that is invloved in the law suit and on the pics HAS AFTER MARKET WHEELS!!!

 

yes but the cars at the bottom that he's trying to use have stock wheels. however white viper already posted what happened to those cars, so obviously this guy is just using pictures of crashed murcies to help him out but in reality all those cars crashed becuase of the owners fault or some other reason besides the car malfunctioning.

 

Does this apply to Gallardos as well? I asked an authorized Lamborghini technician this question and he indicated (regarding Gallardos) that so long as the rolling diameter was unchanged from the factory wheels, it should be fine.

So we have concluded that changing the wheels causes problems with the; traction control, stability, 4wd and the gearbox.

That seems to reflect a pretty aweful design flaw. A flaw which lambo are so aware of that they have put clause in place that entails a void of your warrenty if you should attempt to change the wheels.

Disgusting.

 

It is not a design flaw...it is an all wheel drive system that must work together in a certain fashion. It is set up with a delicate balance that you screw up when you change wheel sizes, which is why Roy pointed out in his earlier post that if you keep the rolling diameter the same, you are ok.

 

Why cant you change the wheels on the Murci, but any other car you can without having to worry about an accident?

 

YOU know the real thing that kills me on these cars.....

Why after they spend millions of Dollars on R and D, do you think you can go to your Local 7/11 Tire and Wheels store, spend 5K for some BLING BLING and think the car is going to perform the same way..HELL NO!!

SHOW me ANY after market wheel company, that will PUT IN WRITING that they guarantee their wheel for sustained speeds OVER 130MPH..NONE NADA BS< WONT HAPPEN!!!


So why the HELL would you play with your life and your nice new 300K car for BLING!!

They designed THEIR wheels to do over 200MPH an HOUR, USE THEIRS!!!

 

Blissful ignorance. Every single truck running on gigantic wheels is a hazard. They handle worse, take longer to stop, and accelerate slower. Tell me thats not a worry. The whole bigger wheels thing drives me insane.

 

not true. there are threads in the 355/360 some guy changed his rear tire to 355 sitting on 19 inch, the gear box broke and gave up.

similar things on 911 4s, changing the wheels changes the weight and the distribution is then unevened, puts extra pressure onto the suspension, and brakes. driving slow around town might be fine, but once you get to high speed, brake a few times from 250k to 80k, then speed again, you're playing with your life there.

 

Im not talking about extremely large wheels. Just like changeing wheels on a Corvette from the 17s to 18s or 19s something like that. Why do you (or I) not hear about this happening on all the other cars with bigger wheels?

 

Because "all the other cars" are not designed for, nor, if ever, taken to the speeds that these cars have the ability (or are known) to perform at, and are often taken to.....when you push the limits of man and machine, you better have the engineering PERFECT...or disaster happens.

Unknown variable: the type of owners that do these mods to thier cars are usually not that intelligent to begin with, probably showing off at the time, and really have no business traveling at those speeds. Just because one has money does not mean they have the abilty to actually drive the car properly to it's limits. This is why Brock Yates ended the infamous Cannonball Run event. He was quoted as saying something along the lines of, "there were people coming out with machines like Ferraris & Lamborghinis that had no business driving them at speed". (as close to the actual quote as I can remember). I mean look at Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, P-****ty (opps, I mean P-Diddy), Mike Tyson, K-Fed, Missy Elliot (doesn't count since she can't even fit her rear into anything less than the bed of a pick up...even though she supposedly bought a Lambo) and other morons that can afford (and do own) cars like these...they still present a real danger to others on the road if they even try to think that they are Michael Schumacher...as far as that they think they can even attempt to handle what they bought to drive.

They require a permit for a gun and a special license for a motorcycle, so why not require a special permit to operate a high performance driving machine? Hmm, how many of us could pass such a test??????

 

Ferrari has stated many times that ANY modification can cause them to deny warranty coverage. I suspect that if you read pretty much any cars warranty it will say the same in some way or the other.

I'm with Roy here. What makes you think a bunch of pimply faced teenagers at a "Tuner Shop" has the engineering talent of the combined staffs of Lambo and Audi?

These types of problems are the exact reason the FAA does not allow modifications on airplanes except with the most severe of restrictions.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, You name it goes to extreme lengths to build a fast, safe, reliable car and the first thing a bunch of nutcases want to do is take it out and strap on a bunch of different parts. That is in my opinion about as stupid as it gets. Those staffs of engineers are a bunch of pretty smart guys with a couple thousand years of combined experience and knowledge at their disposal not to mention all the testing that gets done before the car ever comes to market.

How much engineering knowledge, experience and testing do you bring to the table?
