Dino AC

I heard that there is a company in Michigan which can update the AC system in the Dino.
Any info?

There are several companies that can update the system. It is a york compressor, the fan motor is the issue.

If you are going to update, just make sure it isn't going to changhe the visual aspects and can be retro'ed

I am in Houston and haven't retro'ed a system yet, where are you and are you planning on driving it dailey?

 

I am in Chicago but use the car for a rally in Arizona in the spring where an AC does help.

While Sean is right, one serious downfall is the slow speed of the ventilation fan,
I've found:
- an original size and fit compressor that is identical to the original's outline and mounts exactly using the original bracket. It has a 40% higher cfm with superior modern seals (viton). Can take R-12, R-22, R-134a refrigerants (and others), you'll need your original clutch. Cost is $350
- larger condensor that extends the full width of the front radiator mounts, cost is $200
- new A/C dryer

 

Synchro, any chance you remember the part number of that York compressor? We have a '74 246 in our shop with a leaking compressor - trying to stack as many optional courses of action as possible. I'd feel better about that than trying to reseal the original. Thanks, Joe.

Who has info or technical drawings or can provide lots of pictures of how the ac is installed. How and where is the evaporator box installed etc.
What to remove and install
Is Any cutting required ?

You would think by now someone could come up with a compact electric A/C system where you don't have a boat anchor compressor hanging on the motor. You have the space in the footwell to work with and the space where the blower fan is now.

In a Dino? Not without a battery bank and high amp alternator. Check the cooling amp draw on the smallest 12VDC system. That does not include inrush at startup. SCSpecSheet-combined.pdf (mabrupowersystems.com)

 

Is there any science that points to the compressor as being weak? Any measurements of the refirgerant to support the claim?
Many installers of water pumps and alternators think of A/C as the same style, bolt it on, fill it up and plug it in then all is easy.
No special installation lengths necessary, no understanding the system, no tuning needed, all just works.
