Folks—Question for this group. I have a 2011 version of this fantastic book, package opened, but not used. I no longer have my Dino, so thinking about selling this book. I’m trying to understand value, as I know there is a new version. I see asking prices on Ebay for a couple of them for $2,500 and $2,999. What is the view of this group of a real selling price? Much appreciated.

If you search eBay for “sold” one was bid to $1900 plus shipping in February 2023, though (not to overthink it or mistrust), it is I guess conceivable that someone deliberately set the reserve higher and had someone bid on it to a known value below that.. who knows.

Value? whatever people will pay, $2,500 to $2,999, is piracy.

If on ebay, you have to pay taxes to top it all off (?)

I sold a couple for $1,500, on f-chat. Seems a very reasonable price.

Might have another, have to look for it, if I do, I will post it on "For Sale".

    Regards, Alberto

The new edition of Dino Compedium is still available at a price of 380€ plus VAT plus shipping. I would be amazed if someone put 1500$ today on a first edition. But one can try!

That’s what I was thinking. There can be a premium associated with any first edition, but when the book is essentially a reference work, and when there’s an updated and expanded second edition available, it would seem to make the first edition less valuable.

Most of what I do is research on cars. I have an extensive library and can point at a handful of books worth their weight in gold, this is one. Limited prints are available in either series. Matthias uses a format that should be copied by anyone writing a model specific book. Every aspect from history and model variations is covered in the most easy to reference way possible.
People have stopped reading books in favor of the internet or a google search. The information on the internet is typically subjective and depending on the the source, conflicting. There are a few books out there that should be added to your collection based on the value of the data they contain. These books are usually over looked until out of print and then cant be bought.

I would buy your book. Let me know if you still have it. Is it signed?
