I removed the door panels the other day on my 1988 412. Mostly to see if the inside had been touched, repaired or altered. Fortunately it wasn't the case. But now to the point; on the upper part of booth door frames it was engraved "1840" and on a tag it was written "Scocca 1840". What could that be? I don't think it was the name of the worker. Name of an outsourced company?

Scocca is italian for auto body.
I think it's the Pinninfarina assembly number of the body.

Thank you for your information. I have several Italian cars so perhaps it's time to take language lessons. Does any one know if there are other areas on the car which have similar information? Engraved numbers, stickers, tags etc.

I've also taken my door panles off and noticed a name and number on them. I've also seen a name on the bottom of my back seats, hand written "Claudio" and a number. I think it's one of the employees. It could be someone leaving his mark in life, or maybe just someone wanting to mess with someone head later on in time.
