I have an Apex AD-1201 DVD player that is not recognizing certain DVD's that I burn. I usually burn videos from our video camera onto DVD for distribution to my parents, in-laws, etc. Basically, if I burn a DVD+R on my computer, the Apex DVD player does not recognize the disc (It reports No Disc). I also tried burning a DVD+R on one of my friends computer with the same results. Just by chance, I had a 4x DVD-R disc, and when I burned a video onto that disc, the Apex DVD player recognized it. Is it possible that the DVD player is not compatible with DVD+r discs? Is there someway to update the firmware on one of these devices? Thanks, Dom
Yes, It is possible that DVD players are not DVD+R compatible. There is no way to update the firmware on non-computer based DVD players. Your best bet is to buy a new DVD player that is DVD+RW compatible. Most are in the $99 range.
Best bet is to get a new player. I've had a few Apexs; some worked fine, but the 1201s I've seen have had all sorts of problems. I actually have an Apex 1201 sitting in my living room right now completely apart because I had to manually start spinning the disc before the motor would kick in and play it. You most definitely should check out www.videohelp.com and look at the DVD Player section. It breaks down what players play what formats and the user comments are extremely helpful.
