Thinking of getting my wife one for Christmas. Between the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader, does anyone have any experience with these things?

I don't have experience with handheld readers, but I read a lot of them on my laptop. I've read tons of books that I would never have encountered before.

It's amazing how many FREE ebooks there are out there. I've grabbed almost everything of this site: http://manybooks.net/

If you do bit torrents you can find an amazing amount of technical books online. I have electronic versions of almost all my undergrad and grad textbooks.

I'll back the sony. So much better than using a phone, laptop or pda with that cool "paper" they use it makes reading digitally on the go alot easier on the eyes. I still prefer an actual book though myself and you could buy alot of them for the same amount of cash
