    Hi Guy's

    I know this may should stupid, but l took my 328 GTS 1986 out both yesterday and today due to the good weather, when finished I let stand for and hour and checked the engine oil, this needs topping up can you guys give some advice on what is the best UK engine oil to use.

    shell helix 5/40,i tip gallons of it everyday(into engines:D)

    Agreed - Shell Helix has been tipped in mine for the last 9 years without any issues.

    Agree on Helix. But check your book - dont think you're supposed to wait an hour, just a couple of minutes.

    Would say that you need to know what oil was put in at the last change. I'm a big believer in sticking to the same stuff..

    Thats what I was always told to do, I do it around a minute afterwards

    My 1987 328's book says to check the oil 15 minutes after shutdown when the oil is hot. I use 5-40 synthetic motor oil. Mobil 1 is okay, Redline is better.

    Seems like too many issues with the Helix, foaming an all. See the other threads.

    I use Shell Helix Plus 10W40 in mine.
