Hey, its been a whole day since your last post. Show us the some progress!

 

A lift and engine stand, I'm jealous! Nice work, keep it up!

 

I am also curious to see the condition of the waterpump

 

3 years and 10 000 kms = 6250 miles

As you can see the belts are ok all three of them.

I will change the cam belt now and the others next time.

We went to England last engine out service and as you can see QV london in Ascot made their point.

You can also see one of the KIA sensors I bought last spring.......working ok.

Nice job brother! So what ended up being the hang up getting it out?

 

.......of rust and me not taking all the bolts out.....

The towers were very rusty and needed lubricant........then the two bolts close to the sway bar were only loose (the nuts were off)............................bolts away and then it all went smooth.

.....well not quite but definetely on the way.....

A few pictures showing the new cam belt fitted and the engine assembly back in the car with new belts to both A/C compressor as well as to the alternator. We put in new tensioners as well.
There was some play in the shaft of the waterpump so it has to be changed at the next engine out service. Does anyone know if there is a "kit" available with new bearings and stuff or do I have to buy a new fron part assembly? Checked with eurospares.....some 1500 USD / 950 GBP / 1000 Euro....expensive huh ????
The small "filter" on the last photo is located in the bottom of the oil reservoir. When I took it off there where some 20 very small "drops" of metal.....just like the kind you get when you weld something with a mig/mag.

It has probably not been removed since the car was manufactured.

Another 10 hours and we will fire up again......exciting......

You can check out Superformance.co.uk. I rebuilt my 355 water pump using bearings, shaft, clips from them. Not sure if 348's pump is the same.

 

I just checked that site, it is 270 pounds for the 348's pump. Hope that helps.

If you already have play in the waterpump bearing it is ready to fail.
The waterpump is driven by the timing belt.....is it not?
You need to change it now to avoid serious problems later (and a repeat of the engine out BEFORE your next scheduled t-belt change.

 

I absolutely agree, replace it now or you will regret no having done so !

 

ALL bearings have a *little* bit of play in them. If they didnt.........they wouldnt spin freely.

All depending on how much play Ben has. I have re-used bearings before with 'acceptable' amounts of play in the bearings. Have never had an issue.

If the bearing play is acceptable, then I would leave it. Id replace it for the fact that the seal may leak in 6 months time then you will have to do the job all over again.

 

i want to try to do this when my next major is due. I know i probably shouldnt mess with the cambelts, i'll have someone else do those for me but for the sake of saving $ on labor i think i could pull the engine. it really doesnt look like it is that difficult. how many hours did it take and what would you rate the difficulty on a scale of 1-10?
