    can the engine be removed from underneath through the bottom chassis?

    In a word: NO. The front bulkhead of the rear boot is removable, so there is plenty of room to hoist the powertrain out of the top.

    I am lacking height in my garage for a hoist I was hoping to lift the body off

    You can also remove the wheels/tires and let it down on blocks. That can help with a short overhead.

    IF conditions exist - push the car out of the garage, lift out engine and push car back in!

    Remove as much of the engine ancillaries as you can, it will make removal easier.
