Here are some F1 links I've pulled from various spots. Hopefully not reposts, and hopefully, you'll enjoy them. http://www.gurneyflap.com This site is great, be sure to check out the engine section (lots of big/clear pictures of the turbo engines) http://www.billzilla.org/engread.htm Great soundclips of the BRM V16. Amazing. http://www.f1passion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3715 No Ferrari shots, just Renault. But some great close-ups of the engine. - Chris
Thanks. Amazing that they can package the radiators so close to the headers and still keep the engine cool. It defies common sense that a radiator can be next to a redhot glowing header and still perform it's function even when the car is sitting on the grid waiting for the backmarkers to line for a race start.
It doesn't perform its function when sitting on the grid. The only way the radiators cool the car is when the car is in motion, resulting in air flow through the sidepods, through the radiators, past the engine and exhaust manifolds and out of the car through chimneys and vents. That's why the cars overheat very quickly when sitting for a long time; they are not being cooled at all. There are no fans in an F1 car - the cooling system is entirely passive.
