I was at a dealer today and he started talking about the F430 replacement. All he knew about it is that (he claimed) it would be a single body that combined coupe and spider forms. He also said it would have more power.

Is anything actually known about this car?

He was trying to persuade me to put a deposit down for it :)

I was also told that the 430 is an interim model. I'm hoping it'll be a short-lived design -- 2-3 years max.

Maybe they'll be able to find a decent designer by then.

You mean I shouldn't have made that deposit today on the replacement for the replacement?

Well, I actually agree with you somewhat! I loved the 993. I don't know why they had to mess with it! Even though I bought a 996, I never really warmed up to its design.

I feel the same way about the 360 to 430 transition. They got rid of the understated elegance, nuance, and cohesive design elements of the 360. The 430 looks awkward from some angles, and downright cheesy from others. I think "designed by a committee in a hurry" just about sums it up.

should be 2010 and should be a hard folding roof which will eliminate the 2 cars for 1 that can be a hard top and a convertible. Put your money down if thats what they do in your country. i notice this doesn't happen in the US but luckly it does in australia. also leave a deposit for the 430CS. so what if they have your deposit for say 5 years , it means you get the first car off the line and not something due in 2007 like some people waiting for 430's

And don't picture the folding hardtop like the Mercedes SL's/SLK's. Think of something inspired by the 575M Superamericana. I'd imagine it more like a Targa than a Spider when the roof's down, with more pronounced flying butresses.
And I think with the F430's replacement we will see the first V10 from Ferrari, as the V8 is maxed out with the F430.
With the berlinetta vs spider decision eliminated, it will be one hell of a car! :)

    Nonononono NO!
The F430 is the best looking Ferrari EVER........
As I recall these kind of comments were made when Ferrari brought out the 360. Just wait, I bet you'll warm to it.

All this is merely my humble opinion of course

Let's not start about the 430 vs 360, it's been done so many times it's rather pointless. Let's just discuss about the 430's replacement :)

If it's 2010, then it is no different than the standard 5 year model cycle-time for model changeovers that Ferrari now lives by. Is the 2010 a guesstimate, or based on information from "people who know people"?

Now I want to be sure I understand. The 430 is sold out for probably its entire model run of about five years but Ferrari is unhappy with it.

Therefore, they are going to replace the 430 in a couple of years. Did I get that right?:D

Well, they had lots of unfilled orders for 360s too when they changed to the 430. I think the Gallardo forced a decision to rush out an interim higher HP 360 derivative. But the Gallardo's popularity has turned out to be abysmal so maybe the 430 will wind up being less "interim".

However, my guess is that the horsepower wars will lead to significantly shorter model lifespans than in the past.

I think Ferrari obtained their objective by making the 430 look more aggressive than the 360 but they need to hold to their pattern and completely redesign it next time.

Huh? The 360 was produced from '99 thru '04, where is the rush job? That is a normal product cycle for Ferrari.

I'm sure the 430 was already pretty well finalized when the Gallardo came out. Our local dealer believes the 430 will last the usual 5 years +/-. Ferrari already has years worth of them sold, why rush?

Maybe. But I'm just relating what sales guys at area dealerships have told me (not that it was a rush job but that it is a short-term interim model). And looking at the 430, it does seem to me that it was cobbled together as a let's-buy-some-time model. I really won't be surprised to see the replacement show up in as few as 3 years.

Of course, by then it'll be selling for 300K MSRP so it'll be unobtainium for some of us! :)

Every Ferrari made has been a short term interim model waiting on the next one.

If the pattern holds, which I have no reason to believe that it won't, we should expect ~20k F430s of various iterations over the next 4-5 years.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I have been told the entire run is sold. If you like the looks or not, a sell out before s/n number one hits the floor, not bad for a screw up. I'll take on screw up please! Any color.
