Who has a grandfather who was famous enough to get mentioned in the newspaper, and what was the article concerning?

I'll go first. No one famous in my family.

My grandfather ran away from home at 14 and became a horse breaker in NT, then a jockey. My other grandfather worked in the family general store in Crow's Nest*, which his father started. My father worked there too. The store is still there.


*The real Crow's Nest in Qld, not the shytbox suburb of Sydney.

 

My Grandmother was in the paper for winning the 1969 Lord Mayor’s Trophy for her garden.[emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

My grandmother made the newspapers by winning the Sydney Opera House Lottery in the early 60s I think .... she blew it all but had a lot of fun , I loved her style

 

Well one of my great grand daddy’s freed Greece from the Ottomans. There are statues of him in most towns in the Peloponnesus. Yes I know, BTC [emoji3]

My grandmother bought a Ford Galaxy or whatever the top of the range Ford was back in the day .... she was a BTC for a few years, died broke but had fun

My great great grandfather was a field Marshall (Musir) in the Ottoman Empire army. He was then given the title Bashi which roughly translates to Duke or Lord.
Hence my surname now.

I am sixth generation Australian born on both sides of my family.

My Great Great Great Grandfather was an Australian politician who received a Knighthood. He served as Posmaster-General of New South Wales for many years.

Many books written about my Mother’s family and various ancestor statues throughout Sydney.

Also is the oldest continuous run business in Australia.

My wife’s grandfather was a lieutenant-colonel in the light horse and led the Australians on the victory parade through London at the end of the war.
