I just finished watching one of Steve Martin's specials and I just have to say he is BRILLIANT! Im going to rewind it and watch it over a few more times...and after that I think im going to go pick up a banjo and learn to play :)

So for me, it is Steve Martin...no question... but there are plenty more I love as well.

    Who do you guys like?

When Steve Martin hosted the Oscars, or Gold Globes, whatever it was, he did an awesome job. I was laughing my ass off. Especially the bit he did about all of the women he slept with from the crowd, did any of you see that or remember it?

Eddie Murphy is no doubt one of my favorite No matter how many times I watch Delirious, it is still as funny as it was the first time. Its just too bad he does movies like The Adventures of Pluto Nash! C'mon now Eddie.

But, If I had to chose one, it would have to be Robin Williams. After watching his Standup Comic DVD, He is definitely the funniest man alive in my books.

A distinction needs to be made between "Comedian" and "Comic" -
    A Comedian says funny things.
    A Comic says things funny.

Henny Youngman gets my vote. He was classic, clean and funny. I like his line: "I found a tall brunette in my hotel room. I looked her straight in the eye and said 'you have just 48 hours to get out of here' "!!!!! This guy was very clever. Eddie Murphy was great also. One thing he did not realize was that he would have a greater audience if every other word was not F***xxx.

Jason W, those are GREAT choices. Ive seen all their specials on comedy central.

Pablo Francisco was on last night actually. He does the best voices I have ever heard.

Added to those, I also love Dane Cook.

    Great choices so far guys!

I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, I have never found a female comic funny. I mean, sure, there are some good ones that might make me laugh at this or that, but not to the point where I would consider them a funny person. I dunno what it is. When I see a female comic, I already have this preconcieved notion that they wont be funny, and I just change the channel. I know it sounds bad, but, thats the way it is for me....anyone else?

So many good ones, but I'll add Steven Wright, since nobody else has.

Buddy Hackett (RIP) could just stare at people and crack them up! He was great. Stephen Wright and Sam Kinison (RIP) were cutting edge. There is a guy from New York named Chris Rush who was gut-bustingly funny.

I don't think Larry Miller has gotten the recognition he deserves. He has been around for a long time and he still makes me laugh whenever I see him.

I think Chris Rock is great because not only is he intelligent, but he isn't afraid to say politically incorrect things to the wrong audience, e.g. his bits on race relations in one of his stand up movies were brilliant. All he cares about is whether something is true or not (strange that a comedian can be more honest than any politician).

There was a guy I saw on Letterman a couple of times named Brian Reegan (spelling?), and he was one of the funniest people I have ever seen. Strangely, he has sort of disappeared from the scene.

The late great Sam Kinison was awesome and he could also play a really mean guitar. Dave Chappelle (spelling?) is also really really funny when he does stand up.

BTW - I can't think of too many jobs harder than getting in front of a hostile or indifferent audience and trying to make them laugh.

If you haven't seen the Seinfeld movie "Comedian", you really should.
