I just got off the Ferrari Owner's Forum. Many were posting about the Ferrari FX. It appears to be a new model. What is it?

Actually I believe this was the FX --from 1996 based off of the 512M engine. I dont know how many were made but I do know the one in the photograph is at the Marconi collection a few miles from my house. I have yet to see it in person though!

WOW, I like that machine. Always liked the 512M, but this is a real improvement. Even has the 512M wheels.

    Regards, Jim

Well, that might be called "FX" also... I have no idea... but the FX being discussed on the Owners site is definitely the Enzo... some figured the Enzo would be called the F60, but it was somewhat mis-timed.

Another cool thing about the FX is that it was built secretly for the Sultan of Brunei.

Also, I am almost 100% sure that the FX was the FIRST Ferrari road car with F1 shifters.

And it used a Williams F1 system.

    Mark,

That is really odd/cool! I need to look around and see if I can find the Forza that has the FX on the cover so I can re-read the article.

    It's issue 32 from October 2001.

I'm too lazy to do the research but wouldn't the Valeo transmission from the Mondial be the first "F1 Style" transmission offered by Ferrari?

I have been to the Marconi Museum a couple of times and the FX design never really did it for me.

    Mark,

I am not really sure. But I had thought I had heard that the F1 box in the FX was a test mule for the 355's F1 setup. But it could be misinformation.

According to the FORZA article early FX's used a modified Porsche Tiptronic with buttons on the steering wheel. Here is a pic of Marconi's FX from the FORZA article which shows the selector knob with the Williams logo. As for the FX's F1 box being a test mule for the 355 I have no idea.

The Forza article said Williams F1 shifter, but it didn't mention who the manufacturer of the gearbox/transmission was...I don't think McLaren make gearboxes, do they?

There definitely is a bit of the Saturn coupe in the styling. What kind of a cost do you think these types of one-off Ferraris cost? I've seen the 456 4 door estate wagons too. What do you think you would have to pay Ferrari for a one off car? 2 million? more?
