    My son asked me a question yesterday that I didn't know the answer to.

    Did Ferrari ever produce a V6 engine consumer (non racing specific) car? If so what yrs and models?

    Officially the Dino was not a Ferrari at the time, but is widely recognised as one nowadays. One could still argue that it is a Dino and not a Ferrari though...

    And now there's a new V6 though they're using it in Maserati to being with. Who knows ... ?

    The V8s get shared.

    I'm kind of surprised they didn't put a Ferrari V12 in the QPV and upgrade a few other things to sell a $200K sedan with 650HP. No volume I suppose.

    I think it was sold as a Dino- almost a Ferrari, but the manufacturer plates show it made by Ferrari... It has always been recgonized as a Ferrari (sub) Model.

    Ferrari also made the engines for the FIAT dino Coupe and Spider...

    I dunno...... purists would make the argument that engine was a FIAT --- designed and built in-house (by FIAT). The car overall was built by Ferrari, but not really that particular engine.

    Not sure but I think I remember the origin of the V6 was Ferrari. Later production done by fiat then assembled at Ferrari. However I am not a historian and expect correction.

    According to the book, The Ultimate History of Ferrari the V6 was Dino's idea and the majority of the design work was by Vittorio Jano. Initially used for racing and then Fiat "would build the V6 on Ferrari's behalf and use a version of it..." in two production sports models of their own (Fiat Dino Spyder and Coupe, before the Dino 206/246).

    Yes and I think Ferrari provided the blocks.

    FIAT provided the blocks, Ferrari designed but cast by FIAT since FIAT had the capabilities to cast that many motors. The early motors were then sent to Ferrari for assembling into the 206, FIAT did the assembling for the FIAT Dino's. The 246 and 2.4 FIAT Dino's were done by Ferrari still with FIAT doing all the castings and shipping raw blocks/heads to Maranello.

    Its a Ferrari motor, listen to one at 8,500 RPM and you will have no doubt.
