If Hamilton is in a position to win the WDC near the end of the race, and Alonso is still running, but too far back to win the WDC, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if FA "accidentally" takes out LH. If something close to this happens, I think FA should be banned from F1 for life....

I would love for both Bernie, Max and RD to have heart attacks over something like this....

Agree, but shouldn't Bernie be banned for life for setting up this situation, ie. biased team favouring British driver and using a 2xWDC to set up his car, etc. Pulling rules everywhere to ensure LH does not get banned and also keeps racing (ie. pulled back on track after making a mistake, which BTW LH has forgotten because he has not made a mistake this year according to himself :D).

Alonso has been screwed completely ... no wonder he ratted on the team.

I agree with your scenario, but in reverse. I think FIA is there so if Alonshole starts running away with the title, they can pull him and give it to LH. Just like Bernie said, he can not see anyone better suited to become world champion. You know, because the other drivers don't give anything to the sport. Driving is not what a champion wins by anymore. It is by media ratings and PR.

The ideal scenario would be for Bernie, Max and RD to get run over as the cars come to the grid! :) :) :)

I don't know if Alonso got "screwed", but LH was obviously favored.....but that is nothing new.

I'm sure MS got a much better car than whomever the 2nd driver was. EVERY team has always had a #1 and a #2 driver, no matter if they admit it or not, going back to the beginnings of GP circa 1905!

Just going by his fans who sat behind me in Hungary I could see that. But then again the Fins were no slouches either. :)

    BS analogy.

This guy mentions that sport is unfair and cries about the FIA trying to make it fair. OK
So, Alonso gets an official, LH gets a crane and this guy gets to ***** and moan about Alonso.

    Idiotic article.
While a bit strange, I have no problem with an official stewarding in the McLaren box. McLaren should welcome that official, because it will save them from any accusations Alonso or Hamilton might have after the race. Remember Turkey where McLaren had two teams of mechanics for its cars during qualifying?

And as I said before: There are many officials in every team's garage checking all kinds of things all the time. One more guy won't make a difference.

What happens if the FIA watchdog finds something out. Do McLaren get a chance to cross examine him or does the inspector/watchdog get the final word on whether FA and LH are treated equally. This whole thing sounds stupid.

Watched a program on the BBC last night and they talked about the millions more fans that took up watching the sport in Germany in the MS years only to watch them drop off quite a bit when he retired. They compared that to the millions more that are now watching from Spain because of Alonshole. Although not as big a rise in viewers as in Germany in the MS years there is non the less a huge fan base in Spain that the FIA cannot ignore. Maybe this is why the FIA are placating Alonshole the way they are....its money in their pocket to keep the Spaniards interested IMO.

How does keeping the Spanish interested put money in the pockets of the FIA?

It seems to me that some posters are confused about the roles, responsibilities and activities of the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone - some posts seem to imply that their interests are the same or are interchangeable, which they certainly are not.

I see your line of reasoning, because it is the FOM that collects the tv money etc. However 355 is right in some way: The FIA gets a percentage of that money. It used to be 30% in the old days, dunno what it is today.

A fair point. However, since the TV deals and other financial arrangements for this season will have been signed and sealed a long time ago I don't think keeping the Spanish audience interested would make any difference to the FIA's take this year.

I looked it up and have to take back my statement:

The deal I was referring to happened in 1995. However in July 2000 the FIA (Mad Max) sold the commerical rights for a 100 year period to Bernie for a mere 212 million pounds.

So you are right, the FIA doesn't make an extra buck whether the Spanish fans watch or not. Max has however an indirect interest in it because more fans means more TV money and that goes back to the teams. And he wants the teams to be financially solid (hence his attempts at cost cutting).

You have to built for tomorrow, today. It's easier to keep someone than find a new person, either for advertisement, employees, harlots and fans.
