Need a little help on a problem with Firefox. The other day out of the blue it quit working and all I can get now is an "unable to load page" message that also mentions the connection to the server being reset. I've tried the fixes Mozilla lists and have uninsalled and reinstalled it once. I still get the same page and message though. Won't work with any pages and IE still works just fine so it's not my connection.

    Thanks,
    John

edit: I've also removed and added it back to exceptions in the firewall.

Can you tell me if you operate through a proxy?
    What OS are you using?

Is that a proxy or transparent firewall?

It sounds like your proxy settings have been messed up. Under "general" options ("edit-preferences" or "tools-options", depending on firefox version), there's a "connection settings" button. That brings up a page where you can set your proxy options.

For most home (transparent) firewalls (linksys, etc), you probably want "direct connection to the internet". IE will try direct if the given proxy doesn't work.

For a proxy firewall, you'll want to set in the proxy address and port numbers, and list the exception addresses.

If you're running a proxy firewall, keep in mind that the firewall and DNS settings are closely linked -- messing up either might impair your access out.

Are you sure the problem is just with firefox? What about IE?

Also, on a related note, is this by chance the issue of not being able to hit https sites? or all sites?

Thanks guys, I'll check some of this out when I get home tonight. I'm running XP and the problem is only with Firefox. IE seems to be just fine. I tried several sites with Firefox and don't seem to be able to get to any at all. I'll try again tonight when I get home. Not sure about the proxy question, I'll have to look. I'll also look at my laptop and see if it works on the same connection. Maybe I can duplicate the settings from it if it does.

The problem was with my McAfee firewall. I must have hit the wrong button and it was blocked. I was able to reset it and it's working fine now. Thanks for the suggestions!!
