how can you tell, on the site where i got them from it doesn't say if it's an original or a replica...........what it say is that it's a "restored GT40".........it's still is soooo nice!!......and if it's a replica i wouldn't feel bad about driving that bad boy around all the time!!..........

Its a replica because its left hand drive for starters - only the Mk 3 which was very different came in LHD - others may be able to find other reasons such as battery position overall finish shape of engine mount gearbox etc etc

    beautiful car.
a (very) minor point...wasn't this car really referred to as a Ford GT MK. lV, not a GT 40?

Because they're the same exact pictures from CAV, which makes replica GT40s. They're based in Cape town, South Africa, but also have a location in California.

They are similar but different. The Lola was more of a sprint racer. It was lighter, less robust. The longest race it ever won was the 12 hours of Sebring. The Lola came first and mine was originally a Can Am Spyder which was great fun to drive on the street when I was a bit younger. Now mine is a coupe and has a lot more non original comforts which makes it a great GT car. Today it's a bit less raw than the MK-IV which remains very original.
They are both a lot of fun. The Lola is a lot more fun for the pasenger as you don't have the fuse panel cutting into your knees. The drivers space in both of them is very comfortable.

Eric has ridden in both and Wolfgang has ridden in the Lola. My wife perfers the Lola. My Daughter the Ford.

I prefer the Ford too, but seeing as I lost feeling in my foot the last time because it was jammed in there, I'll be okay with the memory of that one ride. The Lola is very comfortable in the left seat.

The Ford is unreal, the Lola is just fast. Hard to explain.

Yes. That one is John's and it's a real Jota ex Shah of Iran. He let me take V for a ride in it. A wonderful car and a real beauty. Fantastico!
(There are many pics of it in the FFQC Threads.
