Sorry if this is a repost. I just got my first ticket. Although I am proud of my first Ferrari ticket, what should I do to avoid further harassment from our lovely boys in blue. Where do I mount the plate, or is there a way to beat the ticket, advice and pics would be great.

I will pay no front plate tickets all day long just to avoid putting that ugly thing on. Explain to him how there is no way your drilling into a 5k plus bumper.

I just DO NOT get the f'ing front plate thing. Why the hell is a front plate so important?! The same day as the Warren speeding ticket, on the way back to my garage in NYC, I got pulled over by a cop on the West Side Highway while stopped at a light!! He was just standing there directing traffic, saw my Ferrari with no front plate, and pulled me over. Gave me hell but I told him my front plate mount fell off. Barely bought it, but he said "you're lying to me, you don't have a front plate because it looks better that way."

So how much is a front plate ticket in NYC?? Any points involved? (Doubt it, right?) And, I know it's sacrilege, but IF I wanted to put the front plate mount on my 308 but leave the actual plate off (just to give myself a more credible excuse of "plate fell off" or something next time I get pulled over), anyone know where I can get a front plate mount for a 308 (Ricambi or is there something more local?)

    Thx.

WOW...you gotta be kidding man....Only time I've been stopped for that is at the midtown tunnels toll. That's ridiculous that he stopped you at the light for it. Usually- people get no front plate tickets if they're parked somewhere, not in tansit. Atleast he complimented and admitted it wouldnt add to the looks...

What I used to do was to keep a purposely broken front plate in my glove box. Make it all dirty to make it look like it was on there for a while. When he pulls you over, be like look it just broke. Worked all the time on my eurospec m3.

What car is this for? For my 308's, I took a piece of angle aluminum from Home Depot drilled some holes and use zip ties to mount it whenever I need a front plate. It's solid and looks good enough. I mount it off to the side so as not to block radiator air flow.

My 308 has an OEM mounting bracket so I run a plate all the time. The mount angles steeply back thus giving the added benefit of poor visibility and won't bounce laser radar back, but into the pavement. :)

I'll take a picture of it tonight if I can. There's a few shots of my front plate on this site somewhere.

The down side is the bracket is ugly if the plate is off.

    1) Get DEALER or TRANSPORTER plates if you're in NY

    2) Register in MASSACHUSETTS

    3) Get some mac-daddy PBA cards

    4) Avoid the mid-town tunnel

    5) Tell the 5-0 that if he writes the ticket that you'll "cut offa you bells and a put a dem inna da meat grinder"

The Mondial with the black bumper can't look at any better or worse so I just put on the plate.

I got hit at the Midtown tunnel for the ROE last month. $40 fine + $50 surcharge. No points. First time in 8 months and 2000 miles on the car that it happened and it was _instant_. I turned left off 2nd Ave and three 5-0s about 100ft ahead stopped chatting, scanned me, and then pointed me to the side.

Midtown Tunnel is definitely not no-front-plate friendly. Other fchatters I've spoken to go to the 59th St. Bridge instead for this reason.

Just behind the Midtown and BBattery tunnels is the Henry Hudson Pkwy bridge. The damn tollgates force cars to come to a stop so the 5-0 can easily inspect a car and signal a driver.

they even wait in the ez-pass lanes for you - those used to be safe - all these tunnel guys think they are saving the world after 9-11 and they got some authority

I have had some luck with carrying the plate in the front and sticking it in the winshield at key points ie: bridges, city driving , when I see cops around. So far so good. A cop at a toll had suggested this to me when he gave me a hard time for no front plate.

This is exactly what I had planned to do now, until I figure out whether I want to mount it or not. I think whether it works depends on how much of a jerk the cop feels like being about it.

just keep in mind if you decide to put the plate in the front window,
and you get a real ball buster cop, you are going to get 2 tickets,
one for no front plate on the car where it belongs, and one for
    obstuction of view,

I had to put the plate on because of where I live here in Bergen County, what a pain the boys in blue can be. Good luck.

Clyde -- Thanks for this. Did you fabricate that "simple piece of steel" or pick it up someplace? Again, it was nice meeting you at the model party the other night (sorry to hear you had some mechanical issues the next day). I dried off every nook, cranny and crevice of the car that night in the garage...!
    Funny sight...

    Cheers,
    J.
