I wanted to share my progress on rebuilding the home for my horses. Unfortunately I have no "before" pictures, but you can imagine your typical 35 year old sheet-rocked, stale 2-car garage, with a crumbling painted concrete floor, failing tape joints, inadequate lighting and plenty of dirt, debris, and scratchy stuff that shouldn't be around your cars. It was time for a change.

We started with the floor. I installed a quarry-tile floor, 8"x8". Looks a little like a McDonald's, but the tiles are 1/2" thick and very robust. Went with a black grout since I know I'll be working on the cars. I was hoping for less risk of grout staining.

I apologize for the rotation of the picture (it should be 90 degrees clockwise)

Mods: If you don't think this is an appropriate forum for this thread, let me know or move it to a more appropriate location. I couldn't find a "garage builds" thread anywhere. Thanks.

After the floor was installed, we began to dismantle the old cabinets, shelving, sheetrock, electrical and plumbing. I removed the original craftsman track openers and prepared to install jack shaft openers and one high lift kit for the side which will house the lift.

Next, I had a good deal of framing, electrical work and insulating to do before wall covering.

Installed Hi-Hat LED lighting, multiple outlets for openers and battery tenders. I put in a 220 circuit with twist-loc receptacle to power the lift.

Yea. It's on the walls shared with the house and the ceiling.

Funny you start this thread. I'm in the process of "bidding" on a home and the architects and myself spent last week looking at underground garage options. I've decided that whether or not I buy the home (land) I will use ceramic tiles.....any thoughts, ideas, or insight on such ?

    Thanks in advance

I recently came across a "tiles vs epoxy" thread. Lots of good information and opinions there. I just like the look of the tile amd the ability to repair pretty easily if a tile cracks. If you use a porous tile, it should be sealed to inhibit oil staining.

Looks nice. I see one garage door track higher than the other...planning on placing a lift on that side?

My garage is currently epoxy - although impressively easy to clean, it's hideous -- lol

No need yet, but i have separate garage with room for lift just in case......

Unfortunately the other half of this garage is for sports equipment and kids' ride-on toys.
