Gauge swap

    Has any other 85 308 owner thought about swapping the console mounted clock to one of the upper dash gauges? I am 6 foot tall, I can work around not seeing from 40 to 90 on the Speedo, and the upper end of the tach...well I go by ear anyway. I can't see the gas or temp gauge and find both far more necessary than the clock.

    Not completely helpfull, but I switched all my small gauges to VDO.

    After going through that I can say that there isn't much stoping you from doing it. Each gauges has it's own plastic module that plugs into the corressponding one from the main wire harness. What you'd have to do is simply figure out a way to extend the individual wires to the location you desire...either by cliping the module from the back of the gauge and extending the wires or running longer wires from module to module....makes sense to me =)

    No reason it can't be done....it would just take a little time.

    It was originally mounted to the left of the steering column, with oil temp....

    No, you can't see it there either, LOL!

    Does it RUN? If so I 'd be afraid to touch it, it's obviously charmed.........

    Well Doug I guess I don't understand how you are sitting in your car. I'm 6'4" and can see all of my gages in my 77 308 pod. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

    In the 85, there is absoultly no way to see the top two gauges. When I stop, I can crouch down to see them. The steering wheel is blocking the upper gauges and top of the speedo & tach, I think in the later cars the position is different. I just think it's important to know the engine water temp,

    Adjust the steering column upward. I have no trouble in most 308's seeing the inst. Portions of the tach and speedo are often blocked out but not the temp gauges.

    In order to adjust the tilt you need to remove the cover and then loosen up slip joint. You also need loosen the bracket that holds the steering shaft to the dash. Then you can tilt the wheel up until you can see the guages. Then tighten every thing up and replace the cover. There's two screws on the cover and every thing else is just loosen and then tighten. It's a 15 minute job.

    I was able to solve the problem by putting a spacer under the steering wheel, as well as adjusting the tilt upwards.

    Ditto, but i used two spacers (2-inch total extension that perfectly match the steering column) so that with my arms extended the wrists are even with steering wheel.
