It's winter, so it's time to work on my 365GT4 2+2. The gearbox and clutch are my projects. I Have started to remove the gearbox from the car. It took me a day to get it out. I would like to measure the synchro's. Specially the one for 3rd gear. There's always a little "grind" when trying to shift to 3rd gear. Except when shifting is executed very slowly, the noise is not present.

Next issues I have to overcome are the ringnuts. I need a special tool for these, which I don't have.... Has anyone tried to build there own tool or is there another way to loosen these bolts?

    Cheers Jan

if you are referring to the rear main shaft output nut with the 4 notches. I just made one from tool steel. This type of nut is used on many transmissions and wheel bearing spindle nuts. I found that building the tool with replaceable teeth that are hardened is a more durable solution.

Thanks Mitchell, that's indeed the tool I need. Would it be possible to post a picture of your selfmade tool, as an example?

Have you tried Mr.Fiat-6-in-line at www.classicpassion.nl? I vaguely remember that the 2300 Abarth (or was it the Fiat 130 gearbox) has the same type of nut. And if I am correct he surely has the tools!
