I Have a registered gmail address.

    Lets call it Joe Smith.

So my registered address is... [email protected]

Works fine and all. No problems.

Now I get mails from others, both foreingers and friends to the address [email protected]

I have never registered that address. So how does it work that I get the mail anyway?

All mail, go through my phone except the mail from the dot-less address.

It's not a problem (for me) I am just wondering if anyone know what's wrong?

    It's a "feature"

Google allows you to have an infinite number of psuedo-official email addresses. It's supposed to allow you to register for sites and cut back on spam, take for instance using [email protected] should in theory send the email to [email protected] or since they appear to be screwed between joe.smith and joesmith quite possibly both.

Some more info below [I kept drawing a blank on what to search for to get more info for you to read I couldn't remember what they called it when the feature was rolled out!]-
1 Awesome Gmail Address Tip You Don't Know About. Seriously

And direct from the horse's mouth:
It would appear that you might've "hijacked" the other person's account inadvertently if there is a [email protected] [try to sign in to it]. I registered my account as a firstname.lastname combination and just tried without the period and it signed me in to my inbox [never tried that before oddly enough].

Gmail ignores periods and anything appended after a +.

[email protected] would receive all of the following:

    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

This is so you can give out different email addresses and then set up filters to process them automatically. For instance, you might want to give out the subscriptions email to newsletters and have them go into a specific folder. And you might want to automatically archive your algebra101 notes. And have all the emails for your basket weaving club forwarded somewhere else or something...
