Here is a picture that a friend of mine emailed me. Shows two Su30s, driven by two Russian pilots at an airshow. Great flying: Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's amazing. I've seen the Blue Angels countless times and that's a maneuver I've never seen them do...
It's hard to tell from the angle, but the belly-to-belly shot looks like they are only slightly staggered. One pilot would not be able to see where the other is, and the other would only be able to see a little of the nose of the other. Talk about balls. Incredible.
The Russian flight demo guys are good but they have had to use their ejection seats a few times too. One of them has punched out twice in air shows going low and slow.
WOW!! That cockpit to cockpit shot (hey don't even say it!! ) is amazing. But me thinks the Ruskies have watched TopGun one too many times!! Ha I wonder if the guy in the above cockpit is flipping the other guy the bird!
I saw the same manuever at an airshow here during the period of Glastnost. Not anywhere near as close as this example. I would say this appears to be more of a near miss than anything else.
These pilots, their team leaders and the management of the air show have pushed far past the envelope of safety, for the pilots and the spectators. The pictures are in deed incredible, but I think that is pretty stupid flying that sports an unneeded risk.
Don't believe it ... surely there would be turbulence that close to another plane and thus it would get scary trying to hold position. I'm no pilot ... but even trying to hold your car that close to another car at very high speeds is difficult. Pete
I have previously awarded this to one F-Chatter, and now to some unknowns who make my teeth chatter Image Unavailable, Please Login
Am I the only one thinking of that line from Top Gun... Maverick: "Oh **** Goose, I just flew into a jetwash" Goose: "Eject, Eject, Eject" Maverick: "Watch the canopy!" Goose: [THUMP!] um yeah, that manuver is just ASKING for trouble.
