Hello, my name is christoph. i´m driving a porsche 996 c2 and i´m interested about buying a 360. the next few months i´m going to work in the usa, area maryland. so maybe it can be a 430 in a few years . at first i would say, that my english is very very bad, i got russian at first languarge in school. maybe this is a good way to find some practice. so here is my first question: how many of you had driven a porsche before he is buying a ferrari? where are the REAL differences between them? In driving? In cost? In using? this questions are were similar, but for me they are very important. Everybody says, that using a ferrari is horroble expensive. . . best regarts christoph

Hi Christoph, Welcome! I can tell you a lot about the differences between a Porsche and a Ferrari because I have owned both. But if you use the search button within this forum you will probably find all the information that you need. To say it short: Porsches are fast, reliable (daily use) but a bit boring because they are just too perfect. There is no real involvement in the driving (with the exemption of the GT3) Ferrari's are a bit less reliable (Italian, not for daily use), fast, great looking and terribly expensive in maintenance. It is not just the "buying". The biggest problem for many people is the "keeping"! But if you drive a Ferrari the involvement is there! It is a completely different car. Both are great sportscars and you really shouldn't compare them. The best thing is to own them both!
I can only answer for the driving part having driven a 996 C2 , a Turbo and a Modena . The C2 was nice to drive but never got me excited . It handles and brakes very well but that was about it. It didnt leave me breathless or smiling as some cars have after a quick blast . The 360 however is superb , the steering is much more "natural" and direct . The sound also adds a lot to the experience . Im sure you can use it daily if you arent concern about value, depreciation ( esp in the US , where high mileage Ferraris are rare ) . The car is reliable enough for that use .
at first i would give you a special "thanks" for beeing here. bernd maybe will come after that thread. actually my problems with my 996 are not so hard that i can´t handle them. but maybe i´m very angry about it, thats why i´m here. ;-) my intention was when i was young, having a porsche between getting 25 and buying a ferrari before going over 30. the first climb i´ve got. the second maybe a little bit harder. . . hehe. actually, who can say what it really cost. my last inspection cost around 800 . i got new brake fluid, and some small titles. nothing more. everybody told me, that keeping a ferrari, older than a 360 must be really horrorble in cost. somebody said, that a 360 cost nearly same like a gt3. (gt3 cost more in insurance, gas and tires, thats it ;-) ) so everybody, please tell my: how much do you paid this year for keeping a ferrari!

Christoph, Wolfgang can give you an answer on roadtax and insurance. A major service (with cambelts) will cost you about 3.500 to 5.000 euro. The major service is performed every 30k km. The yearly small service will cost you , depending on your garage, between 800 and 1250 euro.
Ton, I think a major service on a 360 Modena (providing there's nothing seriously wrong, just cambelts & general servicing) will cost a lot LESS than 3500 Euros. Even in expensive Switzerland it will be around 3000 Swiss Francs, less if you travel to Italy (highly recommended if you're on a tight budget - Italian Ferrari garages are excellent, friendly and cheaper than elsewhere in Europe). Don't forget that to change the belts in a Modena the engine DOES NOT come out, so the whole job is a lot simpler, quicker and cheaper than it used to be. Over the last 3-4 years I have spoken with several Modena owners that use their cars every day, and they all reckon that it's probably one of the most reliable and the cheapest Ferrari to run.
hello@everyone, today i´ve got my first lesson in driving 360. my business allowed me to stop for an our by tamsen, hamburg. i was invited by them to find my ferrari they knew everything about my porsche and the problems i´ve got. all i can say is, that THIS ride today was THAT ride. i have driven a 993 turbo, a 996 turbo tiptronic, but this is nothing between the mondena. the characteristic is absolutly perfect, maybe you !!! feel !!! much more faster than a porsche 996 turbo. the turbo is only fast. he´s going with the same advance by 2000 u/min to 5000 u/min. a real turbo, nothing more. but on the negative side of the 360, the topspeed is not very impressing at all. but that is not my prefer. after all i can say that this ride will guide my for the next time. i will go to drive a gt3 at sunday. and after that i could say which car i want. best regards christoph Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's the whole thing about Ferrari's: they feel fast and involving to drive. There is a sense of reward that you don't find in a 996TT. I would safely bet that, except on a track, you'll be faster in a 996TT: torque and traction are a league above a 360, but sitting in the car, cruising around, in a spirited drive or on a track, you're likely to find a 360 to be a more entertaining car. Not sure what relevance can be given to top speed given the number of occasions you can venture there, even in Germany.
