We just refinished our den. We put in a 46" Sony Bravia LCD with Surround Sound Definitive Speakers, a Denon Receiver, regular DVD Player, We're using a Logitech Harmony (8900 I think) remote to control everything. All Monster cables. Everything came out to about $6k from Best Buy.

If you really want to test a system, you either need to watch Transformers or Top Gun.

    Goodluck!

Thanks, right now Im using a Samsung 61" DLP 1080p, Blu-ray, Denon receiver, Mirage NanoSat (5.1). When we move Im putting in a dedicated front projection home theater (7.1) . I like using the first pirates, Cars or Gone in 60 seconds on Blu-Ray when Im showing it off.

I have a Sony HD in my living room. Not sure about the specific model but it cost around 1,300. It works well even during the day, if you have the blinds closed.

Here is my room. The Stewart screen is a 10 foot wide with a 16x9 aspect ratio. I have a JVC DLA-RS1 projector which will project high def from a Dish receiver or Playstation Three. I have two Dunlavy V’s up front with Dunlavy IV’s for the front center and rear surrounds. I also use two Dunlavy I’s for side channel speakers. When I constructed the room I did a double floor where the top floor floats on top of the bottom floor. This helps control noise from escaping the room and allowed me to connect several Clark Synthesis transducers to the front section of the top floor and two more transducers to the platform area. The transducers are connected to an amplifier and convert low frequency audio signals into vibrations which in addition to the sub make you feel the sound as well as hear it. I also used a double wall with double doors to eliminate sound transference into the rest of the house. It’s great to be able to play some block buster movie at high sound levels and not disturb others in the house. I built a computer work area behind the rear platform. The desk is up high like a drafting table which allows me to see over the rear couch and work or play on FerrariChat while watching sports, movies or TV on the big screen. I have a separate equipment room and use an infra red repeater to control the equipment.

For a dedicated home theater Lloyd has it right! Not too many seats, construction details that isolate the sound, and top quality equipment. I have what I call "The world's smallest home theater" in a 12x15 room with a 65" Toshiba rear projection and a Yamaha 600W surround sound receiver, and Inifinity speakers with a KLH 12" sub. I built the TV into a wood enclosure so it appears more like a framed screen, and also put it on a pedestal base that helps the deep bass response. The platform (wood frame2x6 with 1/2" plywood) essentially is a larger diaphragm for the sub which site directly on top of it. You can also help your bass response by placing the sub in the corner of the room. I spent about $5500 five or six years ago on my setup and it is pretty good, but only for 2-3 people. I sound insulated the walls when we were building (3" mineral fiber wool batts), and used an insulated single lite exterior french door (wood). When the volume is up to about the same level as a movie theater, you can barely hear it outside the room. It is also important to keep the room dark!
A home theater is one of the great joys of home ownership, so go for it!

Those are some nice set ups. Very nice!

My dad was going to have a media room in their new house. When the house plans were finished and the total sq. footage came to over 7,000 he decide a media room just wasnt necessary....lol.

OMG, I am laughing so hard it hurts!

I put side-by-side, Sunfires, Mcintosh, Carver (pre-sunfire rift) and some Rotels. When it came down to bang-for-your-buck, I chose the Rotels. That and I love silent movies, so like it matters right lol. While I continue to build, here is how all my gear is being stored. Oh, and that media pc/server.

For furniture, I prefer a big comfy couch to arm chairs.
