Hummer's "SUV"

I'm not a fan of Hummers, but I see Hummer now is rolling out the H3, or the "SUV" line at around $30k. Ugly in my mind, and kinda a blow to the "exlcusivity" and "prestige" of having a H1 or H2. Your thoughts?

 

I saw one in a magazine, and I gotta say that Im not a fan either, I see a lot of Jeep, but not a complete rip-off. As for the exclusitivity of Hummer, I think the H1 is where that stops. Maybe its just my area of Colorado, but I swear I must see AT LEAST 15-20 H2's a day.

Although I do like the H2, I really wish that Hummer would of just stopped at the H1, thats a cool vehicle, and very exclusive (in my area at least).


Sooner or later I think that they will have compact SUV's and trucks and such, and then Hummer will be as common as GMC.

H1 is the real deal. The H2 and H3 are just a business deal. Not even the same maker. No comparison.

 

Yeap, I think GM is desperate to milk the strong, very few brands, it has for everything. I personally don't like Hummers, but I think Hummer will be the GMC in 5-10 years.

 

Agreed. The H1 was nice.

H2 and H3 are wannabes.

 

I like the H2 and H3, very nice truck. And I don't know if you've heard about GM (of course you have), but they kind of need Hummers that sell a lot right now. The H1 doesn't sell a lot, not a big profit vehicle. The H2 and H3 actually turn profits for a company in deep trouble.

 

Matt the question is with H2s and H3s, is GM thinking long term viability of the brand, or short term profits and saturation?

I am with Jerry on this one. H1 or bust. A practical Hummer is an oxymoron in my book.

 

True, but don't you think GM may need those profits now? I don't think they can afford to not expand one of their few successes.

 

Absolutely.... It's a good business move on their part.

 

I saw the H3 at the Dallas Auto Show. I am completely disappointed why the hell this damn thing was made in the first place. Great, another P.O.S. SUV on the market that’s about as aerodynamic a mailbox. Any useless High school rich kids will be driving them in my neighborhood, it’s bad enough when mom is driving one & trying to get it to fit sooo close in that closest parking spot at the local grocery store or gym. At the same time blocking the car parked next to it from getting their drivers door open. If the public really wants an overpriced Chevy S10, the found it with the new H3.

 

H1 is practical with a Diesel. It gets 15mpg, and the engine goes 200k miles+ with just oil changes.

A bit wide for the city.

The other ones with the badge are garbage.

 

Ummm not quite...

I have serviced numerous H1's and have rebuilt about 6 of the diesels. The engines crack at the rear mainbearing caps, and the cylinders heads crack also. The enigne is a terriable design. They go through transmissions like there going out of style, they eat ball joints, and chew up the differentials. The interiors are press baord with some leather or viynal glued on to it, and they uses parts from both Ford and GM. Over all the trucks are junk. The military spec Humvs are much different then the civilian product.

 

Interesting to know the 'truth' so to speak. I was just quoting what a buddy of mine with a H1 tells me. Interesting to know...

 

Matt I actually don't know, as I don't follow GM . I posed the question so some of you guys could answer, and I could learn.

 

Tom, can you point out the weakness of the non diesel H1s? I don't care about the interior, but would like to know more about the motor/tranny.

I am not a SUV guy, but the H1 tickles my fancy.

 

Having served as a US Marine and then having the ability to own 3 H1's. (2 open tops 1 wagon) You are wrong in regards to the specs of the armed forces vehicle to the general public vehicle. The only difference is in the interior. drive train and exterior is the exact specs of a military vehicle. In fact the military has been fixing those problems for years since the average age of a humvee is 16 years old. But as for the H2 its a great sport utility in comparison to your everday sport ute.(suburbans,yukons,durangos,expeditions) Ive had them all nothing beats an H1 not even a G wagon...I have a 01 open top my wife drives 05 H2...They are what they are!

 

H1 is cool, H2 was kind of cool, not that awsome. H3 looks like ****, is crap and yea.

 

Do you off road with the Hummers? I also, think that the H3 looks bad when you see it in really life. I sure hope they don't build the H4!!!!!

 

I'll try to explain GM very briefly then. They lost 1.3 billion in the first quarter, the worst in 13 years. Only a few of their cars actually sell well. The Vette, Cadillac, and full-sized trucks and SUVs. Their trucks are getting old (new models due beginning of next year), so profits aren't as high as they should be. The only trucks that really still pull in reasonable profits are the H2 and the Escalade. Wall Street also changed their recommendation from "neutral" to "sell", and they almost never do that. It won't be long before the gov't has to jump in and give GM a boost, as they did to Chrysler.

I want GM to expand Hummer, one of their few successes, so that they can pull out of the hole as quickly as possible.

 

I saw an H2 SUT (I think that's what they're called ... ) the other day and I think it looks much better than the regular H2.

 

Yeap, but what made it successful is that it was "desired" and had some cool designs. Expanding the line downmarket and with SUV's, that really don't look like the real Hummers, ect. could kill that success. Not saying it will or will not happen, but we are a nation built on "status". Having a Hummer is one of biggest ones.

 

I have 200 acres of land In new Hampshirethat I go 4X4...my wife loves to take the kids on the beach dunes near our house.

 

I never knew that about GM quality. *snicker*

It's amazing they are still in business with the crap they make.
