Had a flight from SFO to NRT yesterday. Here's a pic of the typhoon we passed while approaching Tokyo. I've flown by others before, but not one that stood out so well on the radar. This one was beginning to fall apart and maybe that's why it stood out so well. Sometimes the radar can't see though all the moisture if it's a strong setup. Flying NRT to HKG and back to NRT tonight. Looks like another typoon (stronger) is along our flight. Good times.......

Lou, what were the tops in the typhoon area?

I've flown over tropical storms in the gulf of mexico, and it seems like the tops were fairly low (I believe we were well over everything at FL410).
