I wondered what was "missing" the last couple of months and checking some other topics today I realized Impy's inputs. Always insightful, well ballanced, and non-opinionated. Welcome Back !
Who you rooting for next year ?

It is a great thing he got fired before he could.

Montoya has time and again proven that:
    1) He was a reckless F1 driver
    2) He was a danger to the lives of other racers in F1
    3) He was a danger to the media, race officials and fans at the track during F1 races

It was only a matter of time before his sorry ass was kicked out of F1!

Welcome back Imperial. I have no problems with someone so pro-Ferrari F1 and look forward to your slightly obvious predictions. Do you think MS will be back next year?

Only Michael can answer that question! We have been blessed to live in a time to see the greatest racer of all time race live. If he continues, he is going to do it for his fans. If he leaves, his real fans will be there to support him.

It must be sad being surrounded by an ugly family and clinging on to ugly memories of 1994.

Perhaps you need some real help... then again it has been over a decade and there maybe no hope!

Hey Impy, it is a generic photo off the internet. Unlike you, I am not such a wuss that doesn't fill out my profile. And to think that Ferrari Chat was so pleasant for a while. Oh well I guess Trolls always add something or nothing.

By the way, where were you when Schumi pulled that stunt in qualifying at Monaco? It's never too late to get your unbiased interpretation of that.

It is hard to judge if that was a "stunt" done on purpose, but I am willing to play devil's advocate:

****IF*** Michael purposely caused qualifying to stop he served to highlight the problems with the current qualifying format and the street GP's safety issues.

However, penalising Michael was controversial at best. There is nothing in the rules that states he cannot stall his car by mistake. Using the umbrella of "unsporting behaviour", the FIA has proven that they are trying everything they can to prevent Ferrari from winning again.

The rule changes in 05 and then the interpretation of the rule in 06 show that on the one hand unethical team orders of Renault are tolerated while on the other hand race strategies of Ferrari is punished.

The rules are continuously interpreted in a way to dilute the competitive advantage of one team but enhace the competitive advantage of another team. It is absolutely shameful to see this unethical practise from a governing body that is supposed to be fair and unbiased!

That's a fine assessment as far as how it pertains to the teams and rules. I agree that much is purposely left to interpretation for the benefit of an impromptu judicial approach by the FIA. But what is your take on the move as to how it reflects upon Michael? I think it transcended using rulebook vagaries to one's advantage and stepped over the line of underhanded disrespect for the unwritten code of sportsmanship. And I was one who initially gave him all benefits of doubt.

Michael cannot be judged due to poorly writen rules that can be left to the subjective interpretation of drivers and officials. You have said it yourself, the benefit of doubt has to be given to the racer. There is no concrete eveidence that he stalled on purpose.

Imagine if an official thinks that Alonso celebrating after a victory is "unsporting behavior" and does not go well for other fans who sppourt other teams. So he hands Alonso a race ban or takes away his 10 points from the race.

Imagine if an official thinks that Kimi is not driving as fast as he is capable of during qualifying so he has to start at the back eventhough he qualified on pole?

You can't hold up subjective superficial unwritten standards to punish time and again one team and one racer! It is a shame on the sport and its governing body... Michael walked away from it clean as a whistle even ***IF*** he purposely stalled.

Forget about the rules for a minute. Because technically, the rules don't spell out that you can't do donuts in your competitor's garage and trash his equipment. It isn't sporting, and you'd get penalized somehow, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a rule spelling that out. It's been pretty well determined just short of a confession by Michael himself that his manouver was intentional. That said, he knew he was committing an act of questionable sportsmanship to thwart his opponents chances at pole position where it matters the most. This wasn't an issue of exploiting loopholes. It was a moment of moral breakdown. And "clean as a whistle" is pretty subjective. Michael will undoubtedly go down in history as the greatest F1 driver ever, barring the discussions like those posted here. However, his career will also be subjected to the criticisms generated from his few questionable moments, like Australia/Hill, Jerez/Villeneuve, and now this one. Which is too bad, because this happened so much later that it would have been easier to forget the others.

We have to give the benefit of the doubt to the driver... There is just no two ways about it...

That having been said ... ***IF*** he did it on purpose then it will a small stain on a great illustrious and imortal career. Easily forgivable given the unjust circumstances in which he is racing and the unethical behaviour of the sports ruling body and other teams.
