I would also be very interested to know what happened, so that if there is anything that could prevent it that could be considered…

Electrical issue of some sort I'd imagine. The footwell lights and the red marker lights in the doors get incredibly hot if left on for longer than a few minutes. If the door was not properly closed or there was a faulty switch allowing them to stay on it could be that either of those lights were the culprits.

Really sad. Any 50 year old electrical system requires a battery cutoff in use when the car is not actively being driven, and a fire extinguisher in the cabin. Right before I bought my Dino, it was at a local shop for a PPI. They came back from lunch to find smoke in the interior - the ignition switch had shorted. If they’d come back even a few minutes later, the car would have needed a lot more than a replacement switch.

I swapped out the original bulbs for LED's in my Dino and Stratos for that very reason.

That car looks very repairable to me. A shame to part it out.

Correct, but the car does not have to be parted out because the insurance company will not pay for repairs; and may give it a "Salvage title" [At least in the U.S. and its territories]. ;)
