To follow on from two earlier posts in a different thread, has F1 become boring?

Personally I think it is, and has become a bit of a procession. I like Clarkson's idea where the drivers drive for a different team each week, rather than the same team. The starting grid for any race would be totally unpredictable. Would Ferrari still win every week? How would Schumacher do in a Minardi?

Overall, the best driver should shine through, as should the best car.

    Thoughts?

    Hello m8,

Personally, I think F1 is getting better and better. Having watched it until I was 12 then took a break until last year, I think the performance of the cars are getting better and better and even though Shuey does dominate, its well deserved and great to see other super drivers out there.

Just been wathcing Race of Champions and Shuey was in 360 against Maas (spelling?) from Brazil and he didnt win. Shows he is human after all :)

Personally I enjoy the F1 spectacle and the glamour of the sport. Saw a 2000 BMW F1 car up close last weekend and they are truly awesome cars which take a lot of drving!

However, the sport itself is at the moment too predictable and has very limited overtaking and actual breathtaking action moments!
At the current time one team dominates, its happened before and will probably happen again, its just the way the world works, when one group has the perfect formula which others can't match then they will always win!

I enjoy watching the 1st lap of a GP but after that much of the action drys up. I prefer watching racing with lots of breathtaking overtaking moves and excitement like British Superbike or Touring Cars!

Its still a spectacle, but not for me!

Totally agree, Touring cars are a LOT more exciting.

Having said that, I still want to go to Monaco at least one time to watch the GP just for the experience.

Have to disagree Nige, I love it and always want Michael to win he's earned every one, Ive read his book. :D

If it was Button doing all the winning would people feel it was boring??

Schuey in a Minardi would drive Excellently and probably end up a few places forward from Baumgartner and Bruni. :D

    Do behave.

And so what if Hill was in the best car. Schumacher's hardly had the biggest nail in the pit lane this last few seasons.

That said, Schumacher will go down as one of the best ever (I only say one of as I still believe Senna was better, and comparisons further back get more and more pointless).

I see the votes are equal. IMHO the only reason that its become "boring" is because Ferrari are streets ahead of everyone else, though Mclaren look like they're finally getting their act together. Should be a bit more interesting next season. Either awy I still love the whole thing, can't beat it!! :)

I do want Ferrari to win, and I love the fact that they are so dominant. The problem with F1 is that there is hardly ever any overtaking. Take Monaco for example, a great race but unless it rains it is just follow the leader from start to finish.

I watched a clip on TV recently of an F1 race from about 25 years ago, and it was so much better. Side by side racing, positions changing every other bend. Nowadays you are lucky to see 3 overtaking manoeuvres in an entire race. Something needs to be done to make it better for TV audience. What about having the fastest cars at the back like they do in stock car racing, and sticking the Minardi's on pole?

The Ferrari F1 cars I saw at 'See Red' were quite the most awesome cars I have ever seen- the sheer speed, acceleration and noise was just stunning.

I agree there is more exciting 'racing' at Touring cars, superbikes, but I cannot get excited about the vehicles themselves.

It was not that long ago that BMW, McLaren were dominant. Ferrari are proving hard to beat, but the time will come (probably when Schu retires...)- Barichello does not enjoy the same success as Schumacher, despite having the same car.

Good point about Schu... when is it likely that he will retire? Given the career of other F1 drivers..?

I don't think it's boring, but I'd like to see more passing on the course then passing in the pits.
