It is a sin to make such a gorgeous car with inadequate power. It handles excellent,is sooo comfortable, fit and finish that puts any MB product to shame, beautiful exterior and just perfect interior. I did not want to get out of that thing,it felt so good.... But,where is the power, the acceleration to match the looks? We all know a GranSport type version is coming, whether it will be a body kit only we'll have to wait and see. I saw the car in the flesh for the first time a couple weeks ago at our dealer event. I have to say I'm impressed more with the exterior than the interior. The fit and finish undoubtedly is greatly improved, but the dashboard seemed more germanic to me than italian. Just one man's opinion. My old GranSport to me spoke Italian inside and out, this GranTurismo less so. Looking forward to driving it once the demo comes in. Bottom line, if I have a choice of owning a Benz CL, Benz SL or Bimmer 6, I'll take the GranTurismo everytime at least from an appearance viewpoint.
Mark, She is beautiful ! Are you keeping her ? How is the noise ? The house looks so much like Normandy's style
Car is a demonstrator,I am considering ordering a Qp GTS though,to replace my daily driver. House is Normandy style indeed, designed by my wife (a real frankofile).
Not much on the car, but I know it sounds good. Any chance you could post pics of your house? I plan to build and love the style. Thanks in advance...
I heard from reliable sources that the Gransport version will come next september, with the 4.7 V8 currently used in the Alfa 8C and good for 470HP. That should be enough for a sub-13s quarter mile, although the car is still very heavy... where's all the aluminum that they promised in the past? Also, with all of today's talk about "greener" cars with lower CO2 emissions, having a 2-ton coupe that performs only marginally better than a BMW 335 coupe diesel (40mpg / 300HP / sub-14s quarter mile diesel available in Europe, for those who don't know) doesn't make much sense to me and doesn't do anything for the company's environmental credentials.
If you want cutting edge technology and sensible design don't look to Maserati. This is esquisitely styled and from reports appears to be a reasonably well executed executed car. It carries 4 adults in a coupe when many do not. I suspect it's also roomier than a 335 inside. But sensible? No.
Lack of power and rear seat room are why I went with an e60 M5 over a QP as my daily driver...the QP looked better, but lacked the power and rear seat room I wanted and needed. The QP needs the v12 out of the 599 to compete with the M5's v10 IMHO...
I remember that rumor from a year ago when Maserati was supposedly taking the V12 from the 575 Maranello. There might have been a testing mule too floating around. So much for that, would be incredible appealing though.
It might be tough to get a V12 to fit under the bonnet. Another approach would be to modify the existing motor, but I'd bet the conversation would go something like this: Maserati: "We'd like you to help us create a larger displacement V-8 engine developed for our line of cars." Ferrari: "Umm . . . no." Maserati: "OK, then can we have a few more of the engines you've been making for us over the past 5 years?" Ferrari: "Yes, that would be fine."
Wrong... the larger V8 EXISTS!!! It's the 4.7 litre installed in the Alfa Romeo 8C supercar, and it currently develops 450HP. Don't ask me why Maserati did not adopt it immediately for the Granturismo, but what I heard is that the Granturismo "Gransport" due next september WILL have the 4.7 litre V8 with something in the region of 470HP. Still doesn't address the heavy weight, though.
Guys, this car is a GT car, and priced at the $150K market segment. I would say that based on those factors, the Maserati Granturismo is hard to beat. This car is designed for cruising, comfort and somewhat of a sporty feel. It is not a full-on sports car. For the market they are going after, this car is a winner. It's almost hard to compare other cars, because the Maser GT is quite unique (it has a true 4 seat design, in a sexy 2-door coupe package).
+1 I don't know what driving conditions are like in your neck of the woods; but where I live it is plagued with speed cameras, timed distance cameras, mobile cameras etc, etc . A mere 3 kph over the limit is the Cops tolerance and 25 kph over and you are walking for 6mths. They can even seize and auction off your car for "dangerous driving". Speed is a revenue raising industry that the government is hooked on. Another 70hp means zip to me! Elegance, comfort and luxury is where it's at.
Gee, that's a very depressing description. Is Australia that much worse than the USA? I thought you guys could get a bit wild there? Bob S.
The target market for the GP and M6 are the same... people who can afford a performance $100k+ 2+2 coupe ... the Italian one has more style and the German one has more performance ... it seems to be that the female gets the GP whereas the male gets the M6 ... I wonder what the male/female buyer demographics are for each car ?
Is the M6 REALLY so much cheaper than the Maserati in the states? In europe the M6, Maserati GT, Aston V8 and Porsche Carrera S are more or less all the same price.
