Italy Trip

I have not posted here for a while

Last fall the wife and I went to Italy for a vacation. We went to Modena and saw a few sites and took a few pictures. I thought you would like to see some of the pertinent ones.

I didn't remember so I asked the wife and she remembers it being thousands. The number 10,000 came to her mind. By the time I saw it I had given up looking at the price tags.

Things were crazy expensive at the Ferrari store. My baseball cap was 29€ I was going to get my friend a tie which was plain red with a tiny dancing horse but it was 60€ so I got him a coffee mug which was only 40€. I bought a tiny metal scale 308 under plastic which was 40€

The rental Ferraris were either 10€ or $10 per minute, can't remember

I tried to put the prices out of my mind

 

So much for letting the car warm up.

Have you seen the photos of the new Enzo Ferrari Museum which just opened this month.
I have attached a few photos below. I will be visiting it in May as part of the Car Guy Tour.
I must admit, it is very dramatic. No word on if it has a gift store or not.

Having the cars up high like that is better than roping them off, but it gives a false impression of their height.

Maybe that's what they were building in the back ground of the first picture?

Maserati is closed on the weekends (????) so if you want to see it you have to be there during the week. I got a couple pics of the outside......

 

I hope they keep this part in the new building.

Apparently when they loaned Ferraris out to movie studios they got a clip of the cars appearance in the film. Some of the clips were only a couple seconds, none were longer than 10. Just long enough to say "Hey that's......." They had strong all these clips together into a 10 or 15 minute compilation. It was on a plasma TV with a little bench for 2. It started with Fred Astaire in "On The Beach". It was charming.

I wrote to them to try to get a copy, but never got an answer.

 

The new museum Frank posted pics of is in Modena, built around the house that Enzo was born in.

 

Interesting pictures. Nice cars but some are not Ferraris. Where they there just for the
opening? 50s Maseratis are not really part of Enzo' legacy.

 

Well in a way the Maserati brothers could have helped the legend by tormenting Enzo who had recently moved in on their territory.
In his book Brock Yates mentions how the brothers screamed down via Trento rattling Enzo's office windows while on test drives and pissing him off. Perhaps the Maserati brothers were part of the reason Enzo worked so hard to keep ahead of band of misfits and others he viewed as encroachers.
