My wife and I are looking to buy a home in North Florida and we briefly discussed Jacksonville. Would like any input on home location (communities). May be a second home for short term and in a couple of years we may move there completely.

Need great schools or private school, need plenty of garage space, etc… We are not near retirement age, so not looking for retirement community.

    Thank you for your ideas!

I curently live in Jax, what kind of house are you looking for, what price range, beach area or inland/Mandarin.

I was receintly layed off, and have mine for sale. I also recommend my realtor.

Aren't Amelia and Ponte Vedra on opposite sides of Jax (north and south)?

I second that... pick either end... not the middle (Jacksonville) =)

Yes. Amelia is in the north part of Jacksonville and PV in the south. I just don't think I could in good conscience recommend anything in the middle, unless you would live on a houseboat.

Interesting point, Jacksonville is the largest city in the USA in area. They merged with the county as one. Yes, OK, that is meaningless information.

I have a home in Ponte Vedra Beach, found that this safe , gated Golf course community offers all of the best features of the area . Nearby are many types of restaurants, shopping, movies. we use golf carts to travel in the area & use the beach . You can find condo's, towns & single family homes. There are many homes currently listed for sale at about 30 % to 40 % less than I paid in 2007 .

I personally love San Marco. You can live on the river and the place is super quaint, schools are pretty good too I believe. I have a bunch of buddies from college that live there and they love it.

Thanks for all of the info and considerations. We will be heading down in 3-6 weeks to check out the area. Looks like she wants to look at Amelia first. Wife originally from GA and likes the idea of being close to sea island. We'll see. Price range, good question. Probably between 800 and 1.5. Ocean front not necessary and probably not in that range anyway. Would be winter place and then full time after year or so. If there are any great realtors to consider, that would also be great. Thanks so much!

Really? I would have thought PVB was much more expensive than Amelia Island.
